Minimal / no branding isn't NPC. Good example, almost no one has a blank baseball cap and if they do it's probably expensive. You want to give off the vibe of "The sun was in my eyes, so I went to the store and bought a hat, and I like Gibson guitars so I bought this one". You want the most NPC logic as possible. Second guessing yourself or spending any amount of time debating decisions or weighing options or considering anything is playable shit.

A lot of you wannabe NPC's are giving yourselves away to seasoned playable character spotters like myself. No / minimal branding is a dead giveaway that someone is playable because it shows they're acutely aware of and making a conscious decision to avoid branding.

The most true NPC t-shirt isn't plain white but probably something like a Winter is Coming Game of Thrones tee. Another big NPC move is items of clothing from brands that typically aren't associated with clothes. Stuff like Victorinox backpacks and Ferrari sneakers are about as NPC as you can get because it shows a massive dedication to blind consumption and a complete disregard for anything beyond "I like that brand so I bought that thing with it on it".

That's the ultimate NPC move.
