The funny thing, that's a matter of personal perspective.
For example, if I have to, and I had to be extremely autist doing so, the "wasted space" I see is outside of the green line, but I truly couldn't care less about it. In the other hand, knowing precisely how much energy it has, lets me maintain a more constant force in the movement, which helps proper timekeeping. Plus, I really, REALLY, love the way it displays information.
The tiny , tiny space left couldn't be used anyway.
