Well, I of course wasn't talking about negros or other fuzzy haired people. But genetics isn't to blame for shoulder length hair being the norm now. The only genetic thing relevant to this is terminal length, which is further down. Washing also is due to too much follicle movement (open hair, playing with it, ...). The less you move your follicles, the less our hair will produce sebum and your need to wash comes down to once weekly max. That's also why actually long hair is much less work than shorter ones. You only need to wash weekly and it stays perfectly within a braid or an updo without any fancy hairspray, touchup or bad hair days before a meeting. Practically no woman in the west works anywhere, where long hair would be dangerous or unhandy, like a steelmill - and even here a quick bun and hairnet (which would be either way requiered) would suffice.
