You'll have to be a bit more specific about generic Eastern block but the similarity might also because what you know as German style is very Prussian and you can find similar tailoring and insignia for example in Polish uniforms, you know, Eastern European places that used to be German. Now if you want grace and discipline you look at >>13217096 and compare that to Western Germany and all its liberal glamour. I'm not saying DDR was the Fourth Reich. It was clearly quite literally raped into submission by Soviets and a good chunk of German culture hollowed out and replaced with Soviet semen. That honour guard might be for Rosa Luxemburg to give just one example. That being said NVA used Nazi prototype helmets, Bundeswehr got American ones. Bundeswehr got the wide open collars, NVA still had the very same high neck as the German uniforms before. It's a lot of small details that add up to one army looking like carefree 'cool' Americans and the other like shit tier Nazis.
