Ok i made the OP too vague.
What material would be best for a custom poncho? it's just a big square so i have a lot of choice at the fabric store. I was thinking canvas so i can paint on it like a traditional poncho, but traditional ponchos have alpaca wool which isn't available where i'm at. I could order a blank alpaca poncho but they're a bit costly for what it's worth.
Is it best to paint on designs or to sew them on? if i paint them on, how would i go about waterproofing it? Waterproof paints just don't cut it on their own.

As it should be obvious from the fits I was describing, these are for casual wear. And when I tuck in a t shirt, to me it looks unconventional. It looks fine in the model's picture, but it feels out of place in the actual public.

Also, going back to the original subject of the post, tucking highlights how skinny my waist is which is something Im not too confident about.
