>there are more relevant things in the world than art, science for example,
Le fedora, ect. A world without science might be Kenya, but a world without subjectivity taken into consideration is basically North Korea. Fashion can't even be justified within a scientific, utilitarian context, so why the fuck are you even here? Science is a tool for making our lives better, but art is concerned with what it is to be human: our emotional state and our evolutionarily-bred aesthetic appreciation. It'll only become less relevant if everyone eschews emotions

Also, one of my majors is in mathematics you prejudging swallower

>music should not have a value
That's fucking stupid. If art doesn't have any value, then nothing does. I guess cosmically nothing really has any inherent value aside from what's applied to it by others, but if there's one thing that deserves to be cherished it's art

>are you saying that i should go through and listen to classical stuff or field recordings of cavemen humming to appreciate the music today
I didn't say that the value comes from simply being the first to do something

Music is both an art and an intellectual pursuit (like literature). Someone who changes our conception of tone and rhythm holds more value that someone who makes a good pop record that'll probably be forgotten within a few decades. I mean, what piece of music do you remember from 1824 aside from Beethoven's 9th?

>an old geezer who listens to classical won't know who death grips, anco, nmh are, does that mean they're ill informed?
No, because Rachmaninoff's music is inherently more valuable than Neutral Milk Hotel's

I've been pretty obsessed with HL Mencken (his Chrestomathy is like fa-esque elitism turned into journalism) and Gustave Flaubert lately. I also have Saul Bellow's bibliography on the back-burner. Pretty much anything by the former two is amazing

And this is the book that gave me the idea to unplug. Read it

you don't really realize how much of your life is wasted online until you decide to unplug. i've probably read more novels this year than the accumulated total of every previous year of my life

fashion is obviously more than just the material dude. otherwise Silicon Valley would be able to purchase the good taste that they don't have
