Can anyone explain why this wouldn't work? seems like a solid idea, and not exactly the most difficult to execute.

Well, I'm thinking of buying a waistcoat, fedora and some cufflinks (just plain of each) then switching them out to suit his tastes. Going to switch out the buttons for red black and white ones, add some extra buttons (including on the hat)... the cufflinks probably wont get changed, but I'll buy them last so that they match. considering getting red satin bias binding and running it around edges etc.

essentially spice up some clothes for going out/bartending etc

Currently doing undergrad computer & network engineering (finished 1st year as of yesterday), and working in a call centre. Aside from getting the hang of soldering, I would say neither is of use. But then again, I'm more of DIY crafter than electronic/woodwork/metalwork-er

you may notice that the title is "vases" not "candle holder." I'm planning to add a sealant so that they can be used for flowers.

even if used for candles, by the time the paint does actually peel off, you're probably going to be ready for new home decor (or even if not, they're not exactly expensive to replicate)

agreed

If this thread decides it's /diy/hards and i open a post with "Hey /diy/nosaurs," will I get stabbed? Will I have my home invaded?

Wait, what's that? No? This is just some self-important /diy/ck deciding he (or possibly she) is able to force us to a decision.

whatever sticks, will stick. let people flow with it for a while

oooh! steel wool, thanks! I've got a wad of it in the kitchen. I'm using 40 to start, and a sheet of sandpaper is like 90c. I wouldn't mind trying for that sort of finish, again, mainly just to see how it goes. Thanks!

Hey my mad /diy/entists

I'm stripping down a cheap ukulele. I'm currently still getting rid of the paint with the roughest sandpaper I could buy.

I plan on staining it, since it's made of fucking plywood (i know it's still going to sound pretty shit, but I want to do this more to see how it turns out appearance wise.

I have two main questions: first up, I can't get my sandpaper into the corner between the neck and the body. should I wait til I've stripped the rest off? I can't afford the paint stripper and shit, so it's all going to have to be manual. Also, do you have any general adivce? When I smooth off the body, what sort of grade sandpaper should I use etc etc.

My computer is not recognising the external media, so I can't put pics... so here is a general uke.

if i had paperclips, i reckon that could make a sweet kazoo-ey thing

>>11707
cool story bro ;) i have one laying around somewhere. might be fun to fuck around with.

>>11781
holy shit, bro. Should post pics of it thus far, it sounds incredible! And a turtle shell uke? Is it more for the novelty of it, or does turtle shell sound good? Aaaaand do you just do this shit as a hobby? (sorry for all the questions - i just wish i had that sort of ability with instruments. I can't do much more than re-finish and change the hardware on it).

>>11791
haha. Thrity bucks to restring??? My old local music shop did it for me for free the first time, and taught me how. Then again, I was about 12, and people are nice to small children.

So, mac/diy/vers, does anyone here do stuff with instruments? Anything from being full-on luthiers to once having made that lagerphone that sits in the corner, gathering dust.

Pic-semi-related, I'm currently stripping back a cheap uke to paint it up.
