relatives house has some storm windows orginal installed from the 1950s. theyre deciding to either fix them or get new ones. so i took of the outer panel and found this.

what is this? old tar caulk? pretty dry rotted, should i just scrape it all out and put in some new waterproof caulk?

Fixing up a house the 50s, do they still make vent covers like these? Some of the ones left in the house are in pretty bad shape.

somebody left wet pots on the wood and it got ugly. the whole sill is water damaged

how do i go about restoring it? sand-stain-seal?

>> No.476528 [View]

Thanks for the help guys, i'll probably end up just putting new stuff over it. The room this is in isn't nearly important enough to warrant days (weeks?) worth of work

yeah its like one huge roll that was cut to fit the edges etc,
its pretty intact in this room except for a few dirt stains, did the glue underneath do permanent damage to the wood?

Anyone have any idea how old this is?
Considering removing it and restoring the wood underneath but I dont know about asbestos etc.

my bathroom has 60's aluminum frame storm-window type windows. one fixed, and one sliding horizontally. this clamp has been attached to the inside frame for a long time and serves no purpose, does anyone know its purpose? it is a window locking piece

Great. Do I need to wet the exposed wick with fluid too?

>> No.418464 [View]

Isn't it funny how people bitch about how nobody goes places anymore because they can do it themselves with the internet. But then when someone seeks out advice from actual people who know these things, everyone bitches then too

I got this at a flea market. Its a zippo knockoff, Reliance Lighter. made in japan.

Anyways, all i've done to it is pull out the wick a bit but it still wont catch, The flint still sparks fine.

I dont know anything about this, but I read about refueling it. How do I do that?
