how much time you got?
Styrofoam balls and sticks not a bad idea
get floral foam, and water based poly, sand paper, some high build primer, then paint of your choice.
sand the floral foam with 220 grit, blow it off remove foam dust.
paint it with the water based poly, sand again
paint it with poly
3 coats should do it
spray with high build primer ( get from auto parts store) sand
pime again and sand with 400 grit
spray paint
fucking looks boss if you take your time
you prep it right and you can make them look almost completely round, then if you wetsand you can make them look completely glossy.
also its fucking cheap and just takes tons of time
why the water based poly? because spray paint eats styofoam away fast
why high build primer?
because foam has tons of little fucking holes that never vanish fully
why spray paint? cause its fucking cheap

you could also do all the prep work but no priming, then cover it in fiberglass
when the glass dries you can melt out the foam and have a hollow ball

also, was a bit confused by the wine store guy today, kept telling me about different colors of glass and its effects on the way the wine tastes ? couldn't really understand his accent so just nodded and went along, really loves his wine making and I just wanted to get in and out. anyone know what he was talking about?

about to do a batch this weekend,
what kind of yeast do you recommend?
last batch I used lalvin 71b-1122
how big of a difference do the different yeasts make?

exactly, even with the casters locked, if I place something in the vise and apply pressure the entire workbench moves.
>>553441
that's pretty sweet, may give it a shot.
I was actually planning on building a new workbench this weekend and setting aside the rolling bench for a lathe I recently acquired,

have seen someone accidentally go phase to ground with 2.4kv. resulting flash knocked him unconscious and burnt his face ( eyes saved by safety glasses) - scary as fuck getting him down and out of the bucket, luckily as it happened there were police about 200ft away and they immediately called the ambulance which got there by the time we had the bucket down.

so, been using square discs glued onto the foam that I've been turning to stop the centers from wrecking the foam. just realized that it would probably be smarter to make them circular. is there an easy way or should I just turn a big piece of wood to a cylinder, then take small cuts with a table saw?

>> No.553390 [View]

things I regret doing, I put casters on my workbench, bad move- now it moves when I don't want it to and is too short if I remove them. I uses mdf as a top, next time ill just use 2x4's. stability wise I checked so many times to make sure it was square when I was building it.

>> No.552955 [View]

>>552661
ive got 2x4's- used one to make a small replacement crank handle.
I was thinking, I can probably get fairly freshly cut tree limbs ( roundish ) but would they be too unbalanced to turn?

this- especially the water / oil separator
I use a big unit right on the outlet of my compressor and a small on right before the gun, fish eyes suck
your finish is only as good as your prep work, if you've got textured interior and are looking for a smooth look, get a high build primer and sand, sand, sand!
are you planning on painting outside, or inside? it might be better to build a "tent" from a tarp.

if I measured correctly the center size is actually mt1- ordered an inexpensive center to test.
any recommendations on what type of wood to practice with, preferable cheap and not 2x4 lol.
I'm fairly confident after turning down a bunch of foam and making nothing of value- would love to see how wood is

this I know
older copper stills used lead to join the pipes. This can leech into the liquid

I perhaps I bottled too early as well. I want small amounts, one or two glasses at a time- I almost never sit and drink more then that, and it may be a month or more between bottles. Gonna have to save this thread for when I do my next batch

How long should I age it in a big batch? the last time I waited until I had racked a few times and then right into bottles. Better when aged in a bigger batch before bottling?

was able to get the tailstock center out this afternoon, have no idea how to tell what taper it is as there is nothing stamped or written on it, will do research and see if I can find some measurements that will let me know.
For shits and giggles I started turning some foam down at slow speeds because I figure if it spins out it wont hurt much.

already soaking it in creep, great stuff for freeing up rusty things and I get it for free.
From what I can tell ( by anecdotal internet evidence) it may be a morse 2 taper- hopefully I will be able to free up the existing one and see.
That being said I nearly completed the first project, a simple crank handle.

Trying to get the dead center out right now, bit rusted in. Are the centers standard sizes, or is it a per lathe type thing.

I did not hydrate the clay, next time I will.
I'm completely new at mead making, only done two one gallon batches- wine store guy suggested I stop doing one gallon batch and just do a three gallon batch- said it is much easier to rack ( though I think he was just trying to sell some plastic carboys)

>> No.550923 [View]

>>550904
Any specific way to use the clay? I tried and just added a little to each carboy, and while it did help the sediment fall out it there is still plenty left in the bottled stuff.

>> No.550917 [View]

anyone know if I can just change out the dead center with a live center? completely new to lathes and haven't been able to find any info

I tried to make some mead, and while it came out tasty I could never ever seem to get all of the sediment out when I racked. any tips?

Found it on craigslist, I've the last year or so I've found many great tools for free or almost nothing-
Just figured out it's a Craftsman model 103.23180,
