Yeah, that was really my thought too. I know I'd probably end up damaging the brass on it, and I have no idea how to do upholstery.

Oh well, the wife loves it as it is, says the crack "adds character," so I'll leave it be. Might try to replicate the thing though.

Hey /DIY/, need your help please.

I picked up this Chinese made jewelry box for $2.50 from Goodwill today. Brass is in great condition, push-lock is intact, and the silk liner is *perfect.* Unfortunately, there's this bigass crack in the top.

How do I fix this crack? The top looks like it's five pieces, 4 sides with basic dovetail joints covered by the brass corner pieces. The "top" of the top is a single piece that looks like it was glued on top.

Any ideas?

OK /diy/, need you to educate me. My Google-fu is weak. If I buy an arc welder, how do you power it up? Just plug it in and go?

Interesting. You might want to tell all these guys on Youtube that what they did, well, they didn't actually do it.

So, you're saying that you can't cast silver using lost wax? Since when?

Thanks. Funny you said that, that's actually one of my plans (longer term.) Once I get my technique down, that is.

The pitting was present in the casting before the buffing work. The wax I used wasn't 100% hot when I made the positive so some bubbles formed.

Does anyone have any experience brazing aluminum? I'm going to grab some Bernzomatic aluminum rods to patch an aluminum ring that I cracked, but was wondering if it's as easy as it looks on the youtube vids I've watched.

this is genious actually, but the band it pretty thick now (think 9 guitar strings wrapped together)

>> No.189475 [View]

>>189473
theyre not super tight, but i did a standard 3 string braid (i think its called)
and then with a long braided peice, i wrapped it around itself 3 times to make one thick band.
Looks really good imo, its just the endings im gonna try to fix now with the solder/ lighter trick
(OR ANY OTHER TRICKS THAT ARE POSTED AFTER THIS PLEASE KEEP POSTING IDEAS I WANT THIS TO TURN OUT NICE)
