It will hold your weight for a while but my advice is to triple support that particular board and double support the two on either side. The frame counts as your first support. You can use what >>538555 said as your secondary support, but for the main-use board I'd suggest putting something like cinderblocks or a wooden bench underneath.

Serendipitous! I learned how to solder because of this bad boy. It's surprisingly easy to fix if you just buy the relevant capacitors. I recommend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoELQMxVePs as a general guide and http://www.mouser.com/ for your parts. You'll have to track down the asian repair guide for how to take the bitch apart.

I looked into that and it was suggested to use an oven (which is convenient since I don't have a torch). How I handle it afterwards and still prevent imprinting from the pliers? I see the nylon pliers (that's the only pair I don't have) but am concerned they'd suffer melting from the heated copper.

It's my fault, I didn't look hard enough for an image.

A) It's going to be a thick gauge key, not jewelry
B) There won't be any beads on this, just minimally wrapped stones the size of your thumb

Dear /diy/,

I want to get started in heavy gauge wire-working and come to you looking for tips, hints and texts to read. Last week, I made a thread about my current project, in relation to the gemstones I was looking to use, now I'm looking for help making the wire frame.

Thoughts and opinions on copper vs bronze (if bronze is even common), any preservation I might need to do to maintain the attractiveness of the wire (since copper likes to turn green) and preferred methods of manipulating the wire into the desired shape.

Thank you in advance.

Yeah, I found some of those in my area, but they are grossly overpriced unless it's low quality, but shiny, quartz.

Olivine is used mainly as flux sand for metal manufacturing or something, not sure why it's not more common.

>>398496
They only have one sample and it's more purple than green.

The problem with that plan, and yes, I would entertain it otherwise, is that I don't have a tumbler, don't know where to borrow/rent one and I live in Northern Texas, which is half the US away from the only two deposits of olivine in the states (that I know of).

Also want to add, cabochons would be fine as well.

Minerals: Where the hell do I find and/or buy them reasonably priced?

I'm looking to make a copper wire ornament for my friend's upcoming birthday and want a nice chunk of olivine and obsidian (separate is fine too) to work as the centerpiece(s). I've tried Googling but despite a few hours of this, can't seem to find any websites selling anything other than cheap Czech glass or $100+ "samples".

Where does /diy/ go to get their rocks?

As a side note, anyone pointers/manuals for someone new to wireworking?

It's really strong but I personally wouldn't trust it with in a metal on metal scenario with expensive electronics and heat.

I think my favorite part is when he sees a bear and talks about how it's lucky for the both of them that the bear didn't like his smell and then cuts to a shot of his rifle. Dat subtle sense of humor.

Han/diy/men, I have a suggestion for our pantheon:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Proenneke

From the wiki: "Proenneke remained at Twin Lakes for the next 16 months, when he left to go home for a time to visit relatives and secure more supplies. He returned to the lakes in the following spring and remained there for most of the next 30 years, going to the lower 48 only occasionally to be with his family."
