877239 No.877239 [Reply] [Original]

I'm doing some renovation work in a relatives house from the 1950s. Most of the light switches have been replaced with new $3 Lowes, but there are a few original light switches that I want to source so I can make them all consistent.

Does anyone know a brand or mfg for these? They make a very loud SNAP when moved, and have a pointy profile. If I absolutely had do I could pull one from the wall, but I'd rather not disturb whats in the wall.

i just tore out like 25 of those things from a 50s hout that i am redoing. I think i still have a few left that i did not throw out yet, where u live op? u can have them

>> No.877525

My mom has some of those old clicker-type switches in her house, too. I don't know if anybody makes them anymore. Maybe try looking for an "outdoor" type switch.

>> No.877546

I think those strong, loud clickers might be obsolete these days. I recently installed a few heavy duty, double pole switches in the nephew's utility room and was almost shocked (pun intended!) at how quiet and soft they were to operate.

Have you actually removed one and taken a look at it? Most switches I've seen have at least a brand name on them somewhere, and that would be a good starting point.

Most old switches have that "snap" (which I find to be absolutely wonderful) but I can't say I've ever seen one with that pointy style, and I've seen hundreds of old light switches.

>>877546
I really don't like the modern switches. Every single one I've tried has been susceptible to getting stuck in the middle. The only reason I don't use old snappy switches is because they don't have ground screws and my house is new enough to have plastic boxes.

Sorry, I should've read the whole post.

I wouldn't worry too much about disturbing what's there... You might not even have to disconnect the wires in order to pull it out and turn it enough to see the back of it. Just turn off the breaker before handling.

Sounds solid as fuck, nice tactile response.

So, we're supposed to just put them in a box , and write "Anon-CHICAGO" on the side? Does it get picked up by Porky Pig in a Postal uniform and disappear in a sideways mushrom cloud of speed, too?

Why not light switches are easy to R&R and sounds like you don't like them anyway if not for the snap noise reason.

So I guess This is it. It's a P&S switch. Tried looking up the patent number and got me to something unrelated
