CS grad here: If you really like building things you already have the correct mindset for programming. Python is good to start with, don't bother with C for now. Find a book with decent number of exercises, the more involved the better. You'll fail badly at them, probably multiple times, and only then you'll get it.

Good luck, OP.

Only got one arm?

Work on your off hand technique.

Also get of the pain killers as fast as possible.

Read books. Dont work on anything, physical, just your mind.

I broke my right arm in 6 places in an industrial accident. I have plates on bothe bones, elbow to wrist.

dang man. that sucks bad. I broke my non dominate wrist this time around so its not to bad, I dont think ill have an issue with the pain killers i dont think i mean they make it hard for me to properly function so i dont really want to be on them but as you know when that pain comes it comes hard! the only physical thing ive been doing is modding my pc case. so do you still feel the plates?

Sweet memories. Thats how I got hernia #2 right after walking out of the hospital for the op of hernia #1

OP: you could still plan and draw your next projects. I mean, your fingers still could hold a ruler, couldnt they?

Just make drawings of all the shit you ever wanted to make for your home, family, friends. So when your arm is good again, you have sheets for the next years to come.

Teach yourself AutoCAD, Torrent, install (need not be newest version, many shops use one several years old, can be in a VM if your host is not Windows) and you can learn a lot about how to properly think in CAD during your downtime.

If you really like being productive there is endless quality reading on the internet. Welding and machinist forums are worth lurking so you can understand those processes. Ditto electronics.

Do you work on your own vehicles? If so see maker-specific forums.

build a robot that can scale large buildings and clean windows, you will need a screwdriver, some wire and loads of electronic shit and metal, and possibly a hammer

>> No.862047

That's a metacarpal. Looks like you broke your hand, not your wrist per se. Second metacarpal fracture, I reckon.

If that's the case, I'd avoid any grasping or twisting motions of that digit, lest you risk deformity or further damage while it heals. Since the pincer grip is so crucial in human grasping tasks, I'd consider the hand to be pretty much useless right now.

Are you a lefty?

Play turn based games like civ 5.

Also, did you get compensated for the accident?

>> No.862176

Hmm. you could get into stencilling, especially since it's your left wrist (assuming righty). A lot of projects can be improved if you have a nice decorative stencil lying around to spray/paint on a few hearts or vine corners or gear designs or w/e in 30 seconds.

I spend most of my childhood in a casp(right word?) ,broken arms fingers every summer..
Never broken my wrist, but i used my fingers without a problem. Id buy a cheap 2stroke. You might need a hand when it comes to the flywheel and ur casp(bandage, band-aid. Fuckmyenglish.) will get dirty. But youll learn, time will fly, its fun, and if u restore it totally you'll have something to show for it. I'd show you a before and after pic of my moped, but on my phone rn.
Dont know ur age, but Id reccomend it to a 15 yo aswell as a 35yo.

Got run over by a car while on my motorcycle. Crushed all the bones in my lower body, had a leg half torn off, broke my spine, elbow, and some fingers.2 weeks in a coma, 2 1/2 months in the hospital, 12 surgeries, 6 months in a wheelchair.
Find SOMETHING, ANYTHING to learn. I picked up a guitar and I must say I'm not too bad now.
Take a class, learn a new trade but do something.
And as has already been said ditch the pills ASAP.
Good Luck.
