Myself get out of bed to another miserable day of my life.

Soon I'll have to mow the lawn with a reel mower (have to because of allergies and if I use a gas powered one it throws so much shit into the air I'm sneezing every few steps) in 90 Fahrenheit so I'll probably do it over the course of a few days. I did some yesterday or the day before. I will then have to go over the parts that the mower won't get (weeds) with clippers.

Joyous.

I stained the second set of shutters going into my kitchen. Going for something different, so no blinds or curtains. Picket style wood shutters made mostly from old wood I had sitting in the garage. I did have to buy some more wood to finish the second set, so I picked the worst boards for the look. You're welcome to whoever wanted the prettier boards for their project, I thinned the uglies for you.

Which is helpful to those who want the reclaimed wood look, but can't find reclaimed wood cheap, buy ugly boards. Rough them up more, or leave them outside in the rain a little. One board I picked up was already grey from rain. I got four pickets out of it.

I have sewn yet another drawstring bag.

I find hand-sewing therapeutic, even if my skills are pretty basic. I cut up a lot of old clothes to have many different and colourful materials and fabrics but I'm honestly at a loss as to what to make. I just default to drawstring bags because I'd want to sew something in peace but not have any special ideas. I wish I could fucking measure and cut properly though, maybe I should get a ruler with a built in spirit-gauge so I can cut perfect straight lines.

If the nail head is up a bit, it isn't a problem. The nails are usually set deep from the nail gun used by the factory. So stick pry bar under the board and pry up, then smack board back down and the head is up. However, many times, the board just breaks and the nails stays put. Seems like a good base to practice such "mental drawing" things.

The table I made in a parking lot out of the back of my pick up truck with just a circular saw, a measuring tape, and power drill. I made it from a single sheet of 3/4ths red birch. Probably could have come out better if I didnt rush the project.

Put the final soil in the 4' raised garden bed I made for the wifey. Catalina stones from Menard's, rocky soil for 2', mulch for 1', potting for top 1'. Wall is lined with fabric and backfilled with 3'' of crushed marble (it was on sale, so why not? Plus when the stones get loose (and they always do) they'll look nicer).

Also did interior coats of a bathouse (single) I'm making as a housewarming gift for some friends.

But much more awesomely, as I'm just starting my first shop, I'm squatting craigslist looking for great deals. Today, from a nice, elderly gentleman moving to a condo with his wife, I got a Makita 10" sliding compound miter saw with homemade stand (insane stand, really - dust hood, feed sled, mobile).

I could tell the price tag was only a formality - he had $ and wanted his tools to go to someone who would get some use out of them. $75 for... idk... combo that would be $800 or so new?

Seriously - this guy is my effing hero. I'm not broke, but while keeping my spending in check, I expected to end up with a non-sliding Craftsman or Chicago or something. (People around here are selling miters of any good brands for 60% or more of new price.)

Wrote a novel. Sry. Not a lot of places to share that where folks would be as stoked.

I've been promising my Mom I'd make her some frames for the nephews and nieces for awhile. There are six of them and it matched the colours of the room so I made them in ash, oak and walnut and then staggered them. I had a bit left over so I made a butcher block, which I wanted to do for a while. Then what was left from that, I decided to turn into a tea light or whatever it's called. No, the military is such a small department these days that they have enough bunkers as it is. About 200 is listed to be sold in total, but most are just small fallout shelters. But there actually is z non-seizure clause in the contract, but who knows what would get enforced in war times ;)

From what we understand (the motive is still a bit unclear), Anon bought a decommissioned military bunker in Norway from the government for the price of a house in the city.

He was interviewed and investigated as to verify that it's not for nefarious purposes. He also apparently contractually provides phone or internet service to nearby houses because the wires go through his bunker or some such thing.

If I'm correct, there is a silo in the complex, but I think it's for a retractable antenna rather than missiles. The original purpose, again if I'm not mistaken, was to house top-level government officials and VIP/intelligence during disaster, and to serve as a media base to broadcast information in the event of such a disaster.

If possible, get some resin from pine or something, and get it on the handle, let dry and harden for week or two, then brush with a steel wire wheel that is attached on machine (smirgeli, grinder, drill, anything that spins) and "smear and brush it over the handle". gives a nice finish to the surface, and if done properly, is not sticky at all.

Of course, this works best on hard wood types, but if you want to experiment on something else, then use brass wire wheel.

Pic related.

So I worked all evening and made another one, slightly bigger and construction going slightly more efficient.
Still need to find the "sweet spot" for the tongue but otherwise it's going just fine.

Still have trouble working neat and precise, making long straight cuts with a scroll saw is really not that great especially when you with the grain of the wood.

I'm considering getting a small table saw, it would help me tremendously but if only I wasn't so poor.

Also, excuse the potato quality, also something that I can't fix at the moment.
