I love Illustrator. It gives me power to model stuff up to sub-millimeter accuracy and after years of using it on my free time and work, I consider myself a professional and feel confident using it in almost any project I start.
But I want to create a bit more complex machine this time. Sure, I can model two gears next to each other and understand that if one spins clockwise, the other spins counter-clockwise. I can also calculate the speeds and distances of moving parts and whatnot, but I actually can't "see" the changes. What would be the best tool for a vector graphics engineer for this kind of.. physics simulation? I don't know if that's the word for it.

tl;dr are there programs in which you can design and test your mechanical machines?

I'm a macfag, by the way

This is relevant to my interests, too many designs in sketchup and no way to test shit to see whats going to bind/catch up in real life.

This is also relevant to my interests. Anyone who has a solution will stand as a god among men

use solidworks, you can move your assemblies in program

The entire time I was reading this I was thinking "You would have saved a lot of time if you had just used a CAD program.

get a free Autodesk inventor or solid works license (student, warez...)

do your assemblies, move them, drag them, power them. there aRe 10000 tutorials on YouTube and stuff

Maybe it's because it costs like a fucking gold pebble and op is an amateur.

There are shitton free (both as in beer and as in speech) CADs around, especially 2D. SolidEdge is my favorite. But it doesn't do any simulation though.

Really good program. (Not for projects tthough. Collisions are a bit fucked) But it surely helps with physics
