Hey /diy/ers, I just got this van which already has a little bed in it (basically a foam mattress on a coffee table). I'd like to put a locking storage cabinet in it, preferably a locking drawer that would slide out from under the bed. Any ideas?

Another angle:

They already sell stuff like that for workers and contractors and crap. They are metal, deeper than they are wide and slide out on wheels. They are made for vans and truck beds.

Either that or you could bang up a box out of plywood and put some hinges and a hasp on it.

>> No.581073

you could build a plywood and 2x4 drawer that slides out and put a lock on it. Build it so it fits under the bed.

No, your welcome.

I'm probably just going to put walls around that coffee table the bed is on and put a hinged lid on top.

omg, I lost my virginity in a van like that...or at least I think I did...wasn't really sure if it was sex or the drugs...red velvet on the walls STILL gives me a woody. Is that a 1980's boogie van? They was the rage son...

>> No.581571

OMG. Don't worry about the bed. The first thing you need to put on a hazmat suit and strip all that shit out of there and clean/sanitize surfaces.

Then burn all that red velvet in a pit. Do NOT under any circumstances shine a UV light over any of it.

I'd use a foot locker because they are cheap and could be removed at will. Drawers are nice but not usually worth the trouble unless you HAVE to have them.

why do that? why not put another layer of roof on and have cupboards that slide down into the van? That way you save a lot of space

>> No.582684

I'd score a used "job box" off Craigslist and bolt it to the floor then attach bed top to the lid.

I'm not following, another layer of roof? The bed is already raised, that's why I'd like a tool box or something that can slide out from under it. Anyway, I found a foot locker that looks to be the right size at a surplus store, just need to add a lock and latch to it.

That's what I'm searching for now, actually.

In other news, I successfully blacked out the windows. $8 for a 8x10' tarp that's black on one side and grey on the other. I stapled velcro to it in strategic areas, and it's keeping my stick-on lights from being seen from the outside.

Yes, actually. It is global warming. Global temperature raises a few degrees, circulation patterns change, and with that change comes strange climate events and eventual permanent change of the global climate.

Absolutely nothing. The Global Warming fanatics cite freezing temperatures, broiling temperatures, droughts, deluges, strong hurricane seasons, weak hurricane seasons, changing migration patterns, and everyfuckingthing else as "evidence", all by waving their hands and chanting "you're just too stupid to understand SCIENCE!"

Of course, when you actually look at their "SCIENCE!", it turns out that it's all based on computer models that are intentionally coded to produce the results that they cite, such as the famed "hockey stick" Cambridge model. And when those models are demonstrably false, as with the recent warming "pause" that "might extend until 2030", they just say "SEE HOW URGENT TAXING THE WEST TO THROW MONEY AT THE THIRD WORLD IS?!?!?!? IF WE DON'T DO THAT NOW, WE MIGHT NOT HAVE TIME LATER!!!"

Honestly, I just want to shoot all the stupid fuckers.
