update

here is the still running , but its not plumbed into the hot water tank yet

damn thing doesnt have a drain spout on the boiler so its not easy to clean out , this is a major problem for me

ive seen other models that have a drain port

ill be braze welding it into the copper water tank in the roof in 2 weeks

ive never copper brazed before

It's very easy, assuming you have a big enough burner to heat it. Doubly so, if you are familiar with soft soldering.

Water distillation or ... other?

I ask because there's no copper that I can see in the path of steam. Copper reacts with congeners, getting rid of off flavors if you're not distilling water.

Also, that setup is quite small if not for water.

No. Use plumbing solder. Lead free plumbing solder.

quartz glass laboratory water still, that uses cooling water from a in-roof tank

its a continuous still , so it only boil 1 liter at a time , but it continually refills with pre-heated water from the condenser

its for drinking water.

to braze copper, i use an oxy-acetylene setup. i tried to do my first brazed joint using a regular MAPP gas bottle w/ a bernzomatic ingnitor and it didint get hot enough. i think if you use BcuP brazing rods you dont need flux.

I've brazed just fine with MAPP gas and 15% stay-silv rods. All the way up to around 1.5" diameter pipe.

>>567052
Where does the water go after it comes out of the self leveling valve? From what I see you're using water from the roof as cooling on the coil and preheating it with the steam at the same time, then running the cooling water down into the boiler. Runoff is what. . . pumped back up to the roof (I assume this is the pump purpose?).

Doesn't the continuous supply of non-boiling water make it hard to keep at a steady boil?

>> No.567060

>>567056
at the moment it just goes down the household drain because im in testing mode , and i haven yet brazed it into the copper water tank

the copper water tank already has a wetback wood stove plumbed into it 5kw heating capacity , this it what gave me the idea to plumb the still in as well

once it is plumbed into the tank it wont waste ant water

Doesn't the continuous supply of non-boiling water make it hard to keep at a steady boil?
no , all continuous stills are designed like that i assume , and the water is preheated by the condenser , and its 1.5kw heating like 1 to 2 liters of water

Ethanol OK, that's obvious, chloroform? 'other stuff'? The fuck you up to, turtle?

Listen, you're a lot less likely to wind up sick or dead if you build stuff out of stainless or copper. Brass is also generally OK as long as it's nowhere above the boiler.

not sure that id recommend the company though , or the still itself

like i said , it has no drain port , and the heating element "bumps" around slightly

i told the company about the drain problem , they just told me to "use acid to clean it"

i think it was designed for smaller amounts of higher purity water (because its quartz rather than boro) than running large amounts of drinking water through it

hopefully i can get the leveling part modified so it has a drain
