Dear /diy/, I found this fusheng air compressor, it seems to be a two stage three cylinder compressor. I want to turn it into a steam engine. In fact I just want to make some steam engines that are large enough to be useful for something. Any of you guys have steam engine experience?

Damn I'd love to have that as a compressor.

It would be simpler to modify a ICE into a steam engine than this. You'd need to make new heads for it with articulating valves and lifters, add a cam, change the crank so the pistons are setup to push, time it and all that jazz. If you did convert it I don't see it producing anywhere near what a hit and miss or 2 cycle would. I'd be worried about the cylinder walls too. A bit thin for an engine.

Not saying it can't be done, just why destroy a nice compressor for it.

Yea I figured it would be something like that. Looks like I will need to find a motor for this one. I somehow have a habit of tripping and falling into really nice air compressors. I got one like this at a yard sale for 20$ although mine is in better condition.

I have about the same luck finding those old dual cylinder oil filled compressors for 20 to 40 bucks. That 3 cylinder two stage is in another league cfm wise. Nice find.
