Greetings, /diy/. First time poster here with 0 points in crafting.

I'm looking for a way to patch up a massive tear on my beloved straw hat. Searches ended in two different methods of doing so and I require second opinions.

1) Sew the hole with transparent string
2) Patch up hole with similarly colored "netting" (didn't specify on what kind/material)

I'm willing to attempt any method but am limited to household products/ tools. Any ideas?

Sew a piece of a bandana under the frayed part. Stich it to the inner hat material that is still sound and intact. Use a red or blue paisley bandana, or something. It will add life to your hat and it will look cool.

That sounds kinda cool. And I do have a red bandana I don't really use. I shall consider it if restoration is improbable. Thanks for the insight!

Your hat is fucked, but at least it was cheap straw.
If you wanted you could always weave a new one

But I've grown attached to this one, you see. Couldn't I weave the edges of the hole together?

OP, if you really must have your hat, I don't see why you can't re weave it, and tie the loose ends together with thin fishing line.

How exactly do you re-weave something?

You can fix this problem by 1: buying a new hat and 2: seeking professional help dealing with your autism.

Are these options or instructions?

Next time, buy a higher quality hat with a tighter weave. You should literally be able to fold it and put it in your pocket and have the hat spring back into shape.

pretty much this. I still have a scarf from a busker in Liverpool. Brilliant night

Step one. Flip that trashcan around.
Step two. Open the lid to said trashcan.
Step three. Throw the hat into previously mentioned trashcan.
Step four. Wear the hat that is on the dresser.
Problem solved unless your off to see the wizard...
