This has nothing to do with construction, and everything to do with usage.

Take the bed that comes down over the desk, for instance. What happens if you want something on your desk that's taller than a laptop? Better make your bed really tightly or you'll have a mess when you fold the bed back up. The kids'-homework-desk looks like it could fuck up power cables pretty badly.

I particularly love how the sharp corners of the hinge are raised above the floor so that they'll slice open toes and soles any time you accidentally contact them. It really ties the whole design together.

There are many styles of mobile chicken coops and I think this is the most practical design of them all. For a stationary one I would use this design, but just rotate the chickens between the two pastures(or have four- two on each side), so the grass would not get worn down too heavily to just dirt.

I have a gigantic pile of timber, colorbond and tech screws that I didn't pay a cent for and didn't even have to walk beyond my street to get. If you have a backyard, no matter how small, you can keep chickens but people object to Roosters.

...and the A-frame chicken coup is is pretty much your stock standard design. Put wheels on one end so you can move them around the garden.

How is the mobile version somehow safer than the stationary coop? They both feature a solid box for the main coop, in which you lock your birds at night. Generally during the day the biggest concern would be hawks or other large predators- the only thing you would need to particularly worry about would be snakes. Can't very well keep them in a box 24/7- chances are small a snake will go after them in the middle of the day unless you never check on them and have no guard animals on your property(cat, dog, rooster even, etc..).

If your country has foxes, they will fuck your shit up whenever they can, no matter where you are. Rats can be a problem to, I've heard, although I'm betting that depends on the breed of chickens. They are surprisingly resilient in some cases.
Hell, bats can be a problem if they are in your country.
Ideally you want to let your chickens out during the day, the coop is really there to keep them safe at night.

This man speaks the truth, foxes specialize in fucking shit up. An uncle of mine kept chickens and used two layers for the base of his coop, both wire--just to make sure that nothing could get through to the hens.

The whole coop itself was off the ground, just on stilts if I remember right but it's been awhile since I been that way.

That is what I was saying. There is nothing unsafe about the design- a fox cannot dig into a solid wooden coop. Sure, they could dig to get into the outdoor run area, but that could be fixed easily on the stationary version by an extra flap of wire extending out or being buried several inches into the ground(still wouldn't matter unless foxes are digging into your coop in broad daylight- again unlikely). I have been helping a friend with a mobile coop and suggested an extra flap of about a foot around the edge to weight down to hopefully keep things from burrowing below that too- it's still supposed to be a solid coop all over for the area where the chickens are laying. If you wanted to use a wire floor for chickens it's not very good for their feet, and will get clogged quickly. It's really a waste of time if you ask me to put a wire bottom in a chicken coop. Instead put pine mulch in there and the acidity of it will neutralize the base qualities of the chicken manure.

Yeah a raised coop with wire on the bottom is a good idea, as long as you keep it clean. I'm putting my bet on burying hardiplank (A concrete weatherboard) around my coop so nothing can dig under it, but I know if something it determined enough I guess it could dig even that far. Concrete apron on the threshold going into the chickens yard which contains a small elevated coop made out of old fence sheets, steel fence posts, pop rivets and tech screws.
It's elaborate and unfinished.

I think if you want chickens ASAP the mobile A frame is the way to go.

What we used to do was just have an open enclosure for the day and a shed in the enclosure, and all the chicken went into the shed at night and we'd lock them up. Only times we ever lost any was when we forgot to lock them up and foxes got in at night. Mind you, i'm in Australia, no real predators during the day. And foxes are nothing a compound bow, water tank and thermos of coffee can't fix.

Only thing you really need to know with chickens is do not, and I can't stress this enough; DO NOT put a sex crazed turkey in with your chickens.

We fenced off the vegetable garden so they can't scratch it up. Apart from that the garen consists of things they can't fuck with like large bamboos. Chickens are little bulldozers but they are good at pest control and weeding. We now have this thing where mint, parsley and rocket go apeshit everywhere and the hypothesis is the chickens will take care of that.

Yeah that's a good idea, we just always had a fairly spread out garden and it was easier to keep the chickens away.
