Okay /diy/ldoes.

I am a 19 year old male uni student from Australia who has far too much time on his hands. As most young men my age, I have a fascination with making things. working things, moving things, noisy things, etc. I have recently acquired some 3000 dollars (thank you centrelink) and would like to start doing something DIY related with it. Maybe knitting? Small woodcraft? I have no idea. So here is what I have.

Small apartment with balcony, coffee table, full adobe suite (it may come in handy at one point), tonnes of free time and 3000 dollary-doos to do what I want with.

TL;DR: Whta DIY project should I undertake??

That thing is amazing. And would be awesome to own. But I think it is a bit over the top to be completely honest, for what I want to do anyway. Also, I do not have the space/tools/mechanical/electrical know how to produce something like this.

Maybe when I am old like my father, he would love something like this.

DIY cider? Will it work? Who knows?!

How the fuck did you get $3000? When I was 19, they're were taking that much and wrongly!

Anyway, have you thought about gluing shit to other shit and selling it?

You dont need any of that knowledge to make one of these. Thats the point.

Also, anyone know how to fix a door handle? The one to my bedroom is fucked. I will describe what is wrong if anyone can help me out.

Goddamnit, not ANOTHER steampunk thread.

Maybe. I have a few hipster/muso friends and they might know hipster things I can glue together.

But what sort of glue would I use? How much would it cost? Should I stick to wooden objects or incorporate metals and plastics? Should I pick all the materials up from garage sales and old people houses while they sleep?

These are the tips I need.

>>43281

I'm eligible for youth allowance cos I worked 18 months doing 40 hour weeks. And 4000 dollar lump sum payment at the beginning, 280 dollars a fortnight to live on, 1000 dollars at the start of each semester and I was also back-payed from July. I'm only allocating 3000 to do shit with, the rest is going back into my savings.

you need to go and build yourself a tripple crossbow my friend.

What on earth would I shoot at with a triple crossbow? And I'm quite sure it is illegal to own one in my state without a licence.

But explain it to me.

>>43288
It still works, just the handle is falling out.
It was hilarious the first time my girlfriend was over and she thought she broke completely it. I was like "How the fuck are we going to get out of here?!" And she was genuinely scared that we would be stuck in my bedroom until my house mate got home.

Hey anon,

23 Ausfag uni student as well.

What i've been doing is a lot of arty related DIY ventures.

Pic related, what im working on at the moment.

You can be really creative, the stuff will sell for exorbitant amounts of money if you put the time in. Your apartment will look boss and having cool talking points are amazing for when you bring friends or girls home.

That is cool man. I have a fascination with vintage medical style artwork as well. Maybe I could go around and find some old, rusty scissors/scalpels and knock up some vintage medical papers with photoshop. Frame the whole kit and kaboodle and then sell them on.

Do you have any other crafty things you do?

Now that's cool. Multi functional furniture. Like a footrest with a bar fridge inside of it. I think I saw that guys wardrobe with the computer inside of it? Kinda funny. Things like that would need a lot of thought to be put into it.

Leatherworking is a great way to build usable items that can also be sold if you get good at itand invest in some modest equipment.

There are also niches and avenues to explore and keep it fun such as Carving, stamping, finishing and avanced lacing/stitching as well as wax curing and upholstery.

TL;DR: Leather is an earthy, pratical trade that can create earthy, cherished items that if well made, can be handed down to future generations to enjoy. It's also calming once some small learning curves are overcome.
