anyone recognize these bulbs? they were in some rubble near an abandoned power plant outhouse building

>> No.427106

One looks like an HPS 250W the other I'm not sure. Why?

>> No.427115

Both are high pressure sodium bulbs. somewhere between 250w and 600w

>> No.427118

They're not really worth anything and are still mass produced btw. Could also be Metal Halide.

Either way they're two junked HID's. You could always use them for grow lamps, but you should run them with ballasts.

The filament is very good to use as a sharpening stone. I keep them in my tool box, tackle box, glove box and in my sharpening box.

The left is a High-Pressure Sodium bulb, the right is a Metal Halide.

All metal halides and mercury vapor bulbs have the huge rounded end to prevent confusion with hPS.

Its about the same grit as a hard black arkansas stone. So not real sure on the actual grit but I use the black arkansas as the final stone and the ceramic out of the bulb just before. The black stones used to be used to sharpen scalples back when that was done by hand. Also price wise for the bulb ceramics compared to the balck ston, the bulb if far cheaper. The black stones if you can find them are about a hundred bucks for a 1x3x8.The bulbs are about 20 bucks or free if they are burnt out and you know a lineman. Like I said in my other post i have them everywhere, since carrying 6 or 7 stones is cumbersum
