What's the best way of removing a label from a glass bottle without damaging it /diy/?

>> No.41998

try to heat the label with a hair dryer to warm up the adhesive, but this only works for certain kinds

>> No.42001

steel wool.

glass is hard enough not to pick any scratches from it. it's better if you soak it in water for few hours, but only if the label is made from paper and not just plastic.

i usually let it soak, then scrape most of it with a knife and use steel wool to remove the remains

If the glass gets too hot in one spot it will shatter

I little bit of FYI in DIY

>> No.42041

put it in hot water for a couple of hours, then scrape it off with a knife.

i think he wants the label intact, not the bottle

>> No.42042

Hot water to remove most of the label.

Alcohol to remove the glue. You just need to rub it with a piece of paper towel.

Fucking shit works on everything if you let it sit long enough.
Smells great too.
But, yeah, if you don't have this stuff wash the lable off with hot water, that's all you need.

Oh... If it's a plastic label, hot water. If it's a paper label, steam and lots of patience.

>> No.42051

if you want label intact, soak it in water. but that only works if it is glued by water-based glue (usually only paper labels). if it's glued with stronger substance, most probably the chemical that would dissolve it (alcohol, acetone, gasoline etc) would damage the label...

the only option then would be to veeery slowly remove it pulling it by hand, if the glue isn't stronger than the label consistency. i've had very hard glued labels removed that way, but you have to be extra slow and patient

>> No.42054

use vinegar
rub it on the sticker and let it soak as best you can for a few minutes. then use towel to rub it off

or use rubbing alcohol both work well. alcohol might work better
