Hello /diy/, this is my first time on this board

I'm leaving on vacations in a few days, and I'll be staying in a camping with some friends. The thing is campings are not that safe, at least here in Argentina, so I need a good place to hide my phone/money/valuable stuff when I'm not in the tent.
I thought about making a hole inside a book like in the picture, but I'm open to better ideas

Dig a hole. Put valuables (in a ziplock) into the hole. Cover with a layer of saran wrap and a thin layer of dirt. Now shit in the hole. When you want to retrieve your valuables, just grab the edges of the saran wrap (hidden by leaves or w/e) bag up the turd, and take your stuff out.

I did this to my festival tent until it burnt down.

Here's one I made over the summer. It's pretty useful, but be prepared to spend a decent amount of time on it. Like a full day of work or a good amount of hours spread out over a few days.

Tips:
>Find a book with thin pages, easier to cut through. I made the mistake of using a thick paged book and I got halfway through it and quit
>pick a book no one would want to read
>pick a larger book for maximum hiding space

Here's a pretty good tutorial I found

op if ur gonna use a book.. use a bible.. thin pages, cheap, easy to get and u get to stick it to god

but as a camper if i ever need to hide valuables i generally put them under the tent in a plastic bag.. worked sofar for me but idk if anybody has tried stealing from me

also u can padlock your tent shut.. keep the key with you, as a swag user iv always done that

>> No.371341

Just take a box of some kind and a plastic bag put your stuff in it and dig a hole just under a corner of your tent and bury the box and put your tent back over it. Who's going to look under a tent?

Having been a festival steward for the last 5 years, I can safely say that if you a padlock on your tent people are gonna know you have shit worth stealing in there.
It's not as if attaching a padlock to the zipper suddenly makes the flimsy tent immune to knives and shit.

a lock on anything with a zipper is all but useless as you can just pop open the zipper with anything small and pointy.

bibles work super well plus most people won't even look at it.

You know those bags of baby supplies parents are always carrying around? With the bottles, powder and diapers and whatnot? They sometimes have a second smaller bag inside where they put the shit diapers. Get that kind of thing but instead of shit diapers in the second bag just have a few used looking diapers (spill a little soy sauce around the edges). Put you valuable shit in there. Have a few empty bottles and whatnot in the rest of the larger bag.

First, when traveling, don't take stuff with you that you're aren't willing to lose. Everyone targets tourists because tourists like to bring expensive crap with them, like laptops, cameras, iCrap, etc... I would concede that a cellphone is understandably useful for communication and emergencies and such, so you could purchase a cheap travel phone.

Otherwise, in your position, I would always keep anything of value on my person, or it you must leave them behind, bury them. I wouldn't really trust a book. If I'm rummaging through your crap inside a tent, I'd probably throw your stuff around while searching, and the book might pop open, revealing its secrets.

Buy a large shitty sun lotion bottle, empty it, and put your stuff inside it. I have one, that I use at the beach to store my phone, money and keys. If someone rummages through your crap, he won't note the sun lotion. And if you buy a large one (to fit your phone in), it won't be strangely heavy if you store more things inside

>> No.371732

dig a hole underneath the front of your tent, stick your stuff in it, cover it with sheet of plywood that will be hidden by your tent. done.

another tip to go with that is to maybe fill up the extra spaces with some sort of padding (bubble-wrap, foam, etc) so it doesn't rattle when someone picks it up

>> No.371790

>>371700

better yet, add a section inside the bottle that is actually filled with lotion, with the valuables in a section underneath

Yeah, if you do go the lotion route, you really would need to pad it. Picking up a lotion bottle and hearing/feeling it go KA-THUNK in your hands if completely suspicious. The false bottom/real lotion idea is bonus, but you'd absolutely need to fix the KA-THUNK issue first.

Tourist here in Hawaii think they're genius for using baby bags to store cameras and laptops and other valuables. It's a common thing that ends up lifted.
