I have to say that doesn't look safe exactly. Might be decent protection against a hurricane or storm, but not like WW3 or something. And if you are going to block in the ceiling as well I'd think you'd need something stronger than a 2x6. Or do 12" OC or go to 2x8's with 16" OC.

The easiest way to construct a cheap bunker is to use a cargo container.
What? A goddamn cargo container, you might ask.
Here's the deal.
You use a digger to dig a hole big enough to fit the cargo container, and leave room for at least 4m of soil on top of it. This is a ~6m deep hole, usually 20m long and 5m wide.

Now, you lay out rebar on the bottom of the pit. And you fill it with concrete. A decent layer of it (50cm).
Now you put the container in the hole. You cover the sides and top with rebar & nail the container to the previously laid concrete.
You lay out an opening for the door on the far side of the container using wooden planks & sandbags. If you can't into planks & tar to keep the concrete out, don't bother making a goddamn bunker.
Now cover the top of the container with rebar.

You now cover the pit surrounding the container with concrete, up to about 50cm above the container. Depending on how old or shitty your container is, you might want to brace it with roof struts to prevent it from collapsing under the weight.

Wait till the concrete sets, cut yourself a door in the container & attach a blast door to the concrete.

You now have a bunker you won't ever need. Enjoy.

What's the point of the shipping container if you're going that extensive on the concrete foundation and roof? Might as well just put in rebar walls as well.

>> No.38952

>>38948
Didn't i tell them to put rebar in the walls too?
If not, do it fgt.

You see, the shipping container is only there to be a easy object that's both heavy, strong enough to carry a decent load, and easy to cast your concrete around.

You are obviously free to do it whatever ass backward way you like, but some of us just don't like to mess with building up a whole wooden frame.

Oh, and it'll catch the roof if it comes down after a bomb blast.

oh god, fallout shelters are my life, my girlfriend is going to be so mad when I midlife crisis and spend 50k on building a shelter

for everyone commenting on all the holes and vents for shelters, radiation isn't a gas, the point isn't to seal yourself in, but to protect yourself from the radiation waves that fallout produces. When the bomb goes off, it will coat the surface of the land with a sort of radioactive dust (fallout). For the first month or so this dust will emit deadly LINES of radiation in every direction, a few feet of concrete or any good amount of dirt completely nullifies these lines. Given that knowledge, we can still supply ourselves with air, assuming you make some sort of indirect path for the air to travel that a straight LINE of radiation cannot.

>> No.40850

>>40847
You still want some kind of air filter to keep the radioactive dust out.

you can actually come out for an hour every day after the first 40-50 days or so, after another month make it 2 hours/etc. use the time to see what's up, and sweep fallout away (bury it/etc.) but you should always be sleeping/living in a completely shielded area.

I don't know if he's talking about the shipping containers or the /k/ plans, but I can tell you shipping containers are not designed to support weight on the roof. If you pile a lot of dirt on top there's a good chance it will collapse. It's the beams inside the side walls that bear all the load, the "skin" is just there to keep out the weather. When containers are stacked like on big freight ships, you could cut away all the roofs and floors and it would still stand because they're sitting on each others walls.

It's there to support the wet concrete, not even the rebar, for the top of the bunker. You could cut it away once it's settled, but it's safer not to.

Also if you're less lazy than me, you could just fill the damn thing up with soil, and dig the soil out of it later, more work tough, but guarantee that if you fill it with compacted soil it'll hold is p. good;)

here you need the legal authorization to build one. and it needs the approval of the DDASS because there are norms and regulations. in fact nobody will ever sell you the permit to build such a thing. thanks Mitterrand for taking absurd defense decisions.

thing is because france is a nuclear power, nobody should be afraid of bombings. also for the same reason, let your people die, this will be an even better excuse to nuke your enemies.

it's like..

france : a naked guy with a bazooka.
