Hey /diy/ I'm looking to shorten some headphone cables because they are about 6 feet too long, so I was thinking I could cut them in two places to shorten them and then solder them back together, would that work? If, not what else could i do? thanks bros

Fold the part you need shortened as if you were rolling the headphones up, then electric tape the fuck out of it.

coil it like that then cover the whole bundle in tap and extend it up the both sides of the wire.

Doing anything to headphone cables is usually a bitch because their wires have barely enough insulation that it's almost impregnated into the wire. You need to heat them with a torch and then they're all oxidized to shit. there's no way to clean them up and get the connection good again.

If you can't do >>356310 then desolder the whole cable and replace it with one of a length you're okay with.

What I did with mine earphones was coil up the part I wanted shortened, then shrinkwrapped the bundle. Not entirely pretty, but decent enough for my purposes.

It's actually not that bad. A torch will take off the insulation, as will solder and reasonably strong flux. I use kester 331 flux, but I imagine any should do the trick.

I made a picture for you. Works great, looks decent, easy level, wont fuck up your head phones. Decent durability but can be reversed later if you want. For cool mode get red or green colored tubing. It shrinks with a lighter really well.

Cut it off to the length that you want.
Buy jack plug. solder it on.
Voila. did that. works.
