Works like a charm. I used to do it all the time as atalented /diy/er We'd just wrap up the sugar and salt Peter in powdered form into a wad of toilet paper, then light the paper and watch the mayhem unleash from a distance. Burns super hot...place it onto a plastic surface for extreme smoke and destruction.

use oil for this. vegetable oil works, but isn't the best smelling. you can get a good amount of hours from these.
make sure the "wick" gets soaked, then wait for it to dry.

just an orange and some oil. don't leave it unattended though
