2709485 No.2709485 [Reply] [Original]

Had a plumber install a new hot water system. Go outside to check on it and water is pouring out of the pressure relief valve. I send the plumber a message and he says "You didn't touch it did you!?" So apparently it is my fault because "I pulled it so hard it now won't seal" which is total bullshit, I pulled it just as hard as my old one and never had any problems, they are supposed to be pulled to see if they are working correctly so pressure won't build in the tank and the way the tap is designed looks like it is supposed to be pulled to full capacity.

yeah about that. I believed that too and was doing it as often as suggested and then it started leaking. turns out testing it causes them to leak. basically you don't need to test them.

Why would you?
I have only heard of one water heater blowing up. It was because the pressure relief was removed and caped on a gas water heater that was malfunctioning.

>"I pulled it so hard it now won't seal" which is total bullshit,
It's not that you pulled it too hard. The seat and seal are under constant heat and pressure.
After a while, the rubber seal gets stuck to the seat. When you "test" it, pulling the seat away leaves stuck bits and it won't reseal properly.
DON'T TEST IT

>> No.2709840

dont test your relief valve, retad.
big big water tells you to 'test' them, knowing full and well that perfectly functioning ones have a good chance of not reseat correctly afterwards, forcing you to replace it

>after a while
It's fucking brand new, should of years worth of testing and being pulled as hard as I want left in it, last one lasted 18 years with one testing atleast every few weeks/ months without ever leaking lile this.
