have a molar tooth with a large cavity that's causing me agonizing pain. I don't have dental insurance though or the couple grand required to pay out of pocket for it. what is the best way to do this myself? I've pulled out teeth from the front of my mouth before with basic plyers but the location of this one is making it challenging.

Buy dental pliers, they're like $20 on amazon. But you really need to cut the tendon thing that holds the tooth in to get a good pull. I was looking into doing this before and found these really nice locking pliers for around $80 but never went through with it. Look up new/old techniques to pull. I now go to small female dentists and the one uses a newer technique with those pliers and my teeth always come out so smooth. Only like $300-400 cash where i am.

Pulling teeth is just dentists' scam. You are supposed to cure it.
Google up "oil pulling" - you are pulling _bacteria_ out of the cavity and you're fine.
It's been 15 years since my last visit to the dentist; once a year or two I have to "oil pull" some tooth (it's best to do it as soon as you feel the slightest discomfort, but I have once cured a totally excruciating pain with a swollen jaw too). I do it with coconut oil. Haven't lost a tooth since (after the fucking dentists have destroyed two before - I won't let them touch me anymore).
A slight warning - IF it's a tooth which some dentist has already cemented then the method may not work without digging out the filling with some needle or whatever. You will be absolutely fine without the filling if only you don't eat obvious crap like vinegar marinades or too much cookies.

have a 2nd person. restrain your head to a chair or surface that makes sense. protect your teeth, I would get top and bottom mouth guards and cut out the section for the tooth. I would use folded up cotton face cloths for impact dampening. From there use bent long nose vice grips to grasp the tooth, maybe use a rubber/plastic interface if it improves grip, have your friend hit down on it with a hammer to yank the tooth, and hope they are able to do it with enough strength/restraint that the follow-through doesn't damage the opposing teeth

>>2707554
>Google up "oil pulling" - you are pulling _bacteria_ out of the cavity and you're fine.
You're going to literally get people killed with you psuedo medicine BS. You can re-mineralize a tooth with some methods, but once it breaks through the enamel, which is what a cavity actually is, there's nothing you can do to fix it. At the point of "excruciating pain" the cavity has reached the nerve and infected it. You didn't "cure" it, the infection killed your fucking nerve and you won the dice roll of your immune system handling the infection before it spread to your jaw.

Depends on what the crown is made out of, and what tooth it is. I don't think you're getting a crown for $500 anywhere these days outside of maybe a dental college. 1200-1800 is standard for a quality job, anything over $2000 barring the price of gold is probably just funding the dentist's coke addiction. If it's a rear molar, I'd recommend a gold crown, they last basically forever and are somewhat self adjusting over time to small discrepancies in bite contact. Hell, I have one that got yanked off during a wisdom tooth extraction by accident and it was good to just cement back on, been years and it's still fine. Anything else, ask for zirconia, they're way, way better than porcelain in just about every way.

it's not as simple as brushing = you get no cavities ever

I never had any issues whatsoever and brushed my teeth diligently, then in a single year I got 3 cavities because after wisdom tooth erupting, they got so tight that I couldn't even pull floss between them and presumably enamel got chipped from how tightly they were rubbing at each other
once they got ground off, no more cavities

in hindsight it probably would have been easier to just have the wisdom tooth pulled out...

Different dentist fag here. You’re likely talking about an endodontic rotary file. Lots of different factors come into play as to whether it will be ok in the long run and in reality, everyone and every tooth is different. I see plenty of “separated files” (that’s our way of saying oops we fucked up and broke something, whether it’s our fault or not) in root canal treated teeth that are fine long term. I see plenty that aren’t. Just ask for periapical radiograph of the tooth in question every year to monitor for any lesions

3 cavities, some gum recession, need a deep cleaning and need my bottom wisdom teeth pulled... Fuck. Dentist actually said my teeth looked pretty good for not being to the dentist in 20 years. Oh and I chipped my front tooth 12 days ago by yanking a stuck hitch pin out of an implement and having it whack me straight in the mouth. Punched a hole through my bottom lip too.

IIRC you can go to "Free County" and just claim you got no job, no money but I don't think they do tooth pulls or any other dental related. But not sure.

I don't THINK they do much checking with IRS or WTF but you could always play it cute and tell boss "I quit but will be around shortly" so you are legally "unemployeed".

My journey being poor!

>didnt brush my teeth from 16-30 (thought it was genetic, doh!)
>occasional random pain but whatever
>get super bad at 30, too painful now
>brush my teeth pretty hard, bristles go inside the tooth, I wiggle them around. Pain explosions oh boy.
>keep trying to find new angles to try for each tooth, looking for holes in photos
>tons of blood spit in the sink as I clear out blood, presumably infections
>constant pain, keep brushing for weeks trying to find relief
>actually find some, teeth feeling ~betterish
>have to wait several hours stnding up to avoid blood pressure, or days, for a strong enough clot to form around the nerve
>like wackamole, one tooth relieved, on to the next one
>go to dentist, pay 250 for inspection, they drill (I think) the wrong tooth, then hand me a bill for 3k to fix one tooth
>I walk the fuck out still in pain, knowing it would be 20k+ to do it right
>Keep cleaning them out with a toothbrush... somehow this works.

Pain free the next month lol. Dig the blood out, then when I cant find any blood in there, chill in total pain as it heels (hopefully, its hard to tell when its 'fixed').

Every six months to a year (33 now) I sometimes gotta clean out one of the clots and I get a free week of pain. Im getting better at it, and brushing my teeth well, but gently, seems to stave it off. But theres always the looming threat that some infection will be too deep, or a hole too small to brush into.

I have learned to keep my mouth cleaner by swigging water after every meal and such tho. Helps a lot. Fuckan food gets into the fucking tooth they drilled and I had to crack a piece off of it just to reach in there. Some fucking compacted food or some shit gave me blinding pain one week until I figured that shit out.

Its amazing Im pain free like 95% of the time. God knows how long this can keep working.

>hurts every time I walk
>get tired of it
>watch some youtube vids of how doctors cure it
>gather some surgical tools, rubbing alcohol, and a lighter
>also some alcohol
>sit down in the bathroom, drink booze, and sterilize the toe
>also pour rubbing alcohol over the scalpel then light it on fire
>now it's sterile
>slice deep and clean down the outside edge of my toe
>fold back the flesh and reveal the nailbed
>heat up the scalpel with the lighter, then push it against the edge of the nailbed for a moment
>it smokes and stinks
>pour hydrogen peroxide over it
>fold the flesh back
>hold it together while pouring an iodine solution over it to prevent infection
>hold it together until the bleeding stops (the bleeding is good, the bloodflow pushes out the bad shit)
>wrap some gauze around it
>replace the gauze as needed for a couple days, then tape it together
It healed good as new, no scars, and I never had that problem again. Here's a picture for something else but you can see the toe I worked on.

Some advice for managing a tooth infection, fast, don't eat for very long periods. Avoid any carbs or sugar whatsoever, as in not one grain or crumb. When my buddy had an extraction they were cracking down on pain pills so all they would let him have was otc tylenol and aleve at the same time and he said it worked fine, that's what I do for infections. Maybe it was tylenol, I don't remember so I just do all 3 until the pain chills out. You'll see noticeable results just from avoiding sugar and fasting.

What the actual fuck are you on about, you schizo cunt? Only the pulp has bloodflow, it doesn't permeate to the dentin or enamel. Once you have a hole in your tooth, that hole will be there forever. Teeth cannot heal themselves. An infected pulp MIGHT I'll say it again MIGHT recover, but there's jack shit your body can do to close the infection ingress because THERE'S NO FUCKING BLOOD FLOW. It will just continue to get re-infected until it finally kills your stupid ass when it turns your blood septic or spreads to your jaw bone.
>b-but my uncle's friend's nephew got better
I can almost guarantee it wasn't an infected nerve. Most toothaches are caused by exposure of the roots due to gum recession. Root infections are debilitating, I was taking 800mg of advil and 1200mg of tylenol at the same time every 3-4 hours for weeks just to barely function when I had one. Multiple occurence of this in the literrature of my baguette obsessed country.
It doesn't matter how tough you are, if nerves are exposed to infection and teeth is open then the tiniest amount of pressure will deal intense pain.

And has been showed to be effective as an anti-inflammatory agent for dentistry specifically too: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33389135/

Given that everyone has salt and water in their house just try it the next you want temporary relieve from toothache instead of being a retarded cunt.

>> No.2728527

It won’t help toothache. A saltwater rinse will slough old saliva and loose bacteria and the temporary alteration of oral salinity will impair bacterial reproduction for maybe a couple of minutes at best.
If a saltwater rinse was any good at killing the bacteria that cause the infection that provokes the inflammatory response, it stands to reason that Listerine (with its explicitly antibacterial ingredients) would be even better at it.
Look, I’ve had teeth pulled and used a saltwater rinse to prevent dry socket and reduce discomfort but it’s not going to fight decay. The inflammatory response is a symptom so a saltwater rinse isn’t going to do shit to address underlying issues.

>> No.2728550

Also I will add (as I mentioned higher up the thread) that Clove oil B.P. Is cheap, available in almost every pharmacy and chemist, and has proven persistent antibacterial and analgesic effects in cases of toothache.
Even today many dentists use it to ensure preps on fillings are bacteria-free, although it’s seen as extremely old-school and has fallen out of popularity when compared with UV prep sterilisation.
It’s not uncommon to do dental work on older patients (50-60 plus) and get a sudden whiff of clove oil from under a decades-old filling, crown or bridge that’s being replaced. It’s good shit.

nta, oil pulling on top of normal dental care is not a bad thing, quite opposite actually. Anyone can try it with virgin coconut oil as it has naturally anti-microbiological properties and tastes good.
Also there's been some study and oil pulling certainly has no harm, especially when compared to mouth washes. And it seems that oil pulling has benefits, I personally noticed "cleaner" feel and girlfriend said my breath got noticeable better.

So this wisdom tooth removal was a piece of cake... they did it all under local numbing, I drove myself home less than 15 minutes after the tooth was pulled, as soon as I got home I went straight to work. Worked the rest of the day, spit out the gauze and spit some blood for about 15 minutes and then scarfed down some pizza for dinner. >Begin duct taping patient to the table and duct taping his head to the side so infected tooth is facing up and he won't choke on vomit if he spews
>We use a lot of duct tape, this kid ain't going nowhere
>We mask up to keep this shit out of our mouths and put on sunglasses, because no safety glasses, no gloves but homey already has the omega AIDS of infections so does it really matter?
>Can't really see that well, but with flashlights it should work
>More rum drinking for my new medical colleague and I while we begin to call each other doctor (pic related)
>Preparing the local anesthetic application q-tips by soaking them in rum
>mighthavebeentoomuchrum.gif
>Kind of buzzed, but begin to open our local anesthetic packaging.... and there's cocaine everywhere, just going to have to power through this small set back
>Patient is already starting to feel better be a lot said cocaine fell in his mouth and on his face
>take the q-tips, dredge in cocaine and start packing them around the tooth
>wait 30 minutes to numb it up good, don't know if it's the adrenaline or the haze of cocaine in the air, but I am feeling pretty good about this all the sudden
>We are now in the front and the boat is pitching considerably, but have a wee bit of rum to steady myself
>30 minutes pass and we remove the q-tips and test the sensitivity of the area we're going to operate in. It's not just numb, but oddly the patient feel the best he's ever felt... wonder why...

>start cutting away gum tissue to get towards the base of the tooth
>having to stop every few mins because of the smell and put my face in the crook of my arm - makes me feel better and more confident - wonder why? Oh, it's because I am covered in cocaine... that's right
>Get the base of the tooth exposed and begin light probing. Tooth is really loose, like it wants to pop out of the socket.
>Proceed to the next phase. "Doctor, please hand me the hammer."
>My colleague hands me the hammer and as I carefully place the punch where I want it all while remembering Dentist bro told me: I don't want to hit like I am driving a nail, but like I am starting a framing nail. A solid thump. I can do this...
>Punch set, hammer ready, brace myself for the screaming, and thump!
>Damn thing came right out of the socket, but I should been bracing for the stench instead of the scream. There was no scream. Grabbed the tooth with the needle nose pliers and put in the acetone
>Rinsed out the socket with rum in a club soda bottle, trimmed up the rest of the now excess gum using the medical grade shears provided with the leatherman. Little more rinsey rinsey with the patient tilted face towards the floor to get the evil out.
>Tell him he's a stud for taking it without screaming. He tells me he didn't feel a thing. Thank you, cocaine.
>Pack his socket with gauze and leave him tilted so he can drool out the blood on the floor
>Captain relieves Snowman from the helm, as I figure out where we are get some idea of an ETA to Jacksonville to see if I can't coordinate some non-law-enforcement medical help.
>Snowman see about half his brick covering most of our operating area and before he can say anything I give him the "I am going to throw you off this boat" stare
>Call dentist bro, tell him the immediate outcome of the procedure and he passes on follow-up care instructions says he'll see if he has a buddy in Jacksonville that can meet us when we come in. Cool.

>Tell the Snowman to set an alarm every hour and check on the kid and we'll come get him for watch
>Spend the next 12-16 hours on deck beating underpower through the front while killing the rum and tapering off with a few beers, the front looks like its going to pass before we get to gulfstream. Nice.
>Get off watch, wake up Snowman who told me the kid wouldn't stop talking so he never checked on him. Fair enough. Get on deck. As he's getting dressed he does a little wake up line.
>I take the old gauze out of the kid's mouth and give it a little rinse. His mouth no longer spells like NYC dumpster.
>Cut him free from the operating table and tell him to get in a real bunk and gave him four bottles of water to drink, while I find another bottle of rum to keep me company
>Rest of the trip was uneventful. Crossing the gulfstream was a bit worse than usual, but nothing major.
>Coordinated with Dentist bro and he had a real oral surgeon waiting for us at the dock.
>I suggested that the captain go back wildly liberal use of the owner's credit card to secure us suitable lodging for ourselves and the expensive escorts the owner was also going to buy, because he was going to have call the owner and explain why we're not going to be in Newport any time soon. Also, he doesn't need to be there on the off chance customs shows up and wants to look around.
>I went with the kid and surgeon and explained our "process" to him so he knew what he had to work with. Surgeon ended up congratulating us, saying we did the best anyone could have hoped for in the situation and ran a bag of IV antibiotics through the kid and took out the other wisdom teeth while he was there.
>Customs never showed, we put the kid in a room to sleep everything off, while captain, Snowman, and I party with a bunch of expensive prostis.
>Kid ended up dating the girl and getting married to her, now he's rich AF with a smokeshow wife.

I know it's an old thread, but lemme just tell you about the most painful two weeks of my life
>be me woke up one morning that one of my wisdom teeth hurts like hell
>don't bother, it will go away
>it doesn't
>bite the bullet and go to a dentist
>dentist says, that I got an infection because wisdom tooth started to come out and ripped the gum
>he says that it grows in a shit direction and shows me on the x-ray
>tooth looks straight as an arrow to me, but I believe him
>he says it would be better to get it out when the infection is gone
>get antibiotics and get back to dentist 2 weeks later for the extraction
>he yanks it out no problem and says it will be swollen and will hurt for up to a couple days
>go home and days pass
>swelling hasn't gone down
>pain gets stronger
>can open mouth less and less
>don't want to go back to the dentist say I will just sleep it off
>at this point don't really eat, I just drink milkshake and pop diclofenac painkillers 6-8 a day
>two days pass
>the pain is so unbearable that I can no longer function just lay on my bed and whine like a dying dog while I drool on a towel
>finally give in to my gf and go back to the dentist
>at this point my mouth is so shut that I can't even put my pinky in it
>dentist shrugs his shoulder and says he can't do shit, my mouth is almost completely shut, he can't even inspect it
>prescribes some antibiotics
>parents been calling me every day and starts to really worry
>one day pass
>antibiotics don't do shit and know I start to sound like a retard when speaking, because something is pushing the base of my tongue
>get a call from my childhood dentist who lives like 3 hours from me
>he says my parents called him and asks for some photoes of my face
>send him
>he calls me back and says to pack some clothes and go to the nearby university's oral surgery clinic, he already arrenged everything for me
>walk to the clinic
>young doctor is already waiting for me at the door

>he doesn't see shit, can't force my mouth open long enough but says it's most likely an ulcer
>get sent to ultrasound
>ultrasound doesn't see shit
>get sent to CT scan
>as I walk back, doc is already out of the door with the pictures
>tells me, that my body felt something was missing from the place my wisdom tooth used to be so it grew an ulcer the size of a tangerine
>he and an older oral surgeon look me up and down and the older says he can take it no problem
>the younger doc sat me down in the chair and explained that the ulcer has to be drained but he can't operate in my mouth since I can't open my mouth so he will go from the bottom and work his way up through my jaw
>also they won't sedate me, I will just get local anaesthetic, because I look like I can take it and they would have to prep the OR

>gives me 1 more and cuts the skin with scalpel
>asks if I felt it
>tell him it felt like he ripped some hairs out of my beard
>he tells it's good enough, but brace myself, because it won't be pleasant
>then the most painful 20 minutes of my life started
>he sliced and dug into my jaw until he hit the ulcer and cut it open in the inside of my mouth
>I passed out for a second mid surgery
>when he popped open the ulcer I felt instant relief
>he put some antibiotic tape inside the hole he dug and said I have to stay in the hospital until the ulcer empties and the infaction goes down
>I went up to the room they prepped for me got some painkillers and slept
>came the next morning and the doc said the antibiotic tape has to be changed 2 minutes max

Yeah after all the shit I went through I regret he could talk me into it.
Are you a dentist though? The one who extracted it said, something like it had to come out because the root was not straight and it was close to the nerves. Did he straight up lied?
Unfortunatley I don't have the x-ray or ct pictures but all my teeth are dead straight and perfect, never had any problem with them apart from breaking almost completely one of my front teeth when I was 8, but that was rebuilt and it held until I was 24 and my childhood dentist rebuilt it for free when a big chunk broke off. Also he said, that he almost always puts an antibiotic tape into the wound before he closes it if he extracts a wisdom tooth, to prevent exactly what happened to me. Is that something that should be standard?

Your mouth is too small for wisdom teeth period

Dentists are too good at keeping your teeth

I wish there were more studies on wisdom teeth in adults adults that had lost teeth.

I bet your supposed to get a molar pulled in you're mid teens and then yupyr wisdom teeth can grow in fine and it would push all your other teeth forward.

That would interfere with the gold crown pipeline though so no dentist will ever recommend it.

I won't be that vocal but, yes, tell them the truth.
Unless they are crooked they won't perform extra care to overcharge you.
Their time is their money, they don't want to waste it with mister goodteeth when they could charge mister damagedteeth more per hour.
And lying to medical practitioner is usually a bad idea as they may not diagnose you well because of what you told them.

Nursing schools don't provide real nursing experience? My ass. I deal with patients regularly in the hospital, learning basic interventions and medication administration. It is difficult, hands-on work. I don't know about other nursing schools, and it probably seems like a lot of nurses are untrained, but the one I go to, we get a lot of nursing experience.
