So long story short my landlord is pos and we haven't had hot water for over a month and I'm trying to fix the hot water heater and I have no idea how too. There's three chords coming out the gas powered hot weather heater two of them are already connected but I have an extra red one and I can't get the ignitor to work because it's broken off. Where do I hook the red wire and how does the ignitor make the spark?
I'm sure it's a dumbass question but seriously I need to fix this and can't find it via Google as these things are already supposed to not be cut

Have it replaced. Take cost out of rent.

It's a touchy operation, but you need to get a car battery and some jumper cables, hook up the cables to your wiring for a jump start of electricity

Bro I'm not an electrician, but I think that's a 240V setup. You SHOULD NOT be fucking with that unless you are 100% sure the power to it is off.

Also, if you don't have hot water, then don't pay rent. Not sure what country you are in, but in the USA if the landlord isn't doing their job you have a ton of rights in your favor, including refusing to pay rent and reporting them in your state. The government is on your side, not the landlords.

Some have a piezo igniter which means you press a button to spark it and after that the pilot flame stays on
Or it has electrical ignition which means there’s a coil/transformer that generates the voltage needed for the spark which is carried by a ceramically insulated wire to the igniter. The other side of the igniter is always ground (not neutral)

But just call landlord and say you smell gas around the heater

Find someone literate to sue your landlord for you, instead
