What are some improvised tech gadgets you can make? I've been looking for ways to make a computer out of the most simple ingredients for years but since I'm not an engineer, it's very hard to find any results.

>paperclip computer
Read the book and it doesn't use all simple ingredients and it also is too big (since it's a book from the 1960s so shit wasn't as advanced back then).
>electromechanical relays
Hellno.
>mechanical calculators
Hellno.
>vacuum tubes
Hellno.
>transistors
Nope.
>microprocessors
Forget about it.

And note that it has to be made from complete scratch, mind you. Well, after two or three years of digging I finally found what I wanted:

Apparently you can make computers out of quartz (silicon dioxide, depending on its electroplating capabilities). You can find it in sand and on the ground. In ancient history they used it in the Alexandrian lighthouse and I think the Baghdad battery. It was in 2020 when I started the project and I didn't even finish it until now. Nothing too difficult to make. What all can I do with it?
