Also Facebook is not a disaster. How most of the people use it is. I consider facebook a long term oportunity to share my life to other people ( or descendants ) after im gone.

I've been looking into this a bit too. Want to make a DIY site for some of my projects/hobbies. Check this out: http://www.consumer-rankings.com/hosting/ . The top hosting site, iPage looks pretty kickass. I know some HTML, CSS and Javascript going into this but it looks like their are plenty of tools (site-builders) that take care of that shit for you. Some of them are linked in the descriptions of the hosting sites - the ones that each host supports. So, I'd imagine it's pretty easy to get a somewhat decent site up and running without too much effort/knowledge.

Another easy way: make a wiki

goto www.wikia.com and make a new wiki, hosts images, can embed videos, and is free, though you don't totally control it, it's a community thing. Also search for a similar wiki on wikia first, o one wants duplicates.

or wikispaces.com in which you have control but with limited visuals

I've used 000webhost, they seem ok and I've never noticed the website go down. Their maintenance page does go down though, so you can't always upload new files.
