ITT: Wallets and wallet tech.

Tell me about your wallets, /diy/. What kind of wallet do you have? Do you guys have any credit card tools? You know, things like knives and flashlights and phone chargers that fold up to the size of credit cards and fit in your wallet. Have you guys made any yourself? Pictures if you can!

Now, technically this isn't /diy/-related, but I felt that if anyone would have tricked out wallets filled with tools and gadgets, it'd be you guys. This feels right in your area.

I'm also looking for a new wallet but I don't know if /adv/ could help me like you guys can. Should I ask here?

I picked up my wallet when I was on vacation in mexico 10 years ago... only paid like $16, and let me tell you, mexicans make good wallets. It's too bad I have to get rid of it on account of RFID scammers who can wave a wand over your wallet and steal info.

simple bifold wallet, leather
pretty boring actually, just ID, gift cards, membership/discount cards, debit/credit cards and buisness cards. occaisonally if the opportunity to get some action arises, i put a condom in my wallet

Leather wallets are the best. They can take quite a bit of damage compared to the alternative. Even duct tape wallets are more flammable than leather wallets. Just something to keep in mind. Also avoid clothlike wallets

Mother fucking tri fold hardly davison wallet i bought in 1990. Had a bad ass chain that fell off about 15 years ago. It had a hardly daviston patch on it with a eagle shitting fire but that fell off about 12 years ago. Its made from some sort of industrial grade cow peelings and still smells like a tough guy, well like the pocket of a tough guy.

My wallet is old enough to get into a barfight.

This one. Holds six cards total, two on the outside which is really handy. Bills and whatnot are a PITA to get out since the wallet gets it shape from the cards in it and really tapers near the bottom.

I messed with decoupage and made myself a Hulk wallet a few months ago. I don't expect it to last for as long a them fine ass leather wallets, but I was cheap making. Hold only two cards (i regret so hard) and I even made a coin pocket thing. As for gadgets, I sometimes have a smell petty flat scissor in there. Nothing special tho.

Never got into the credit card tools - they always seemed a bit too flimsy to be useful or too bulky to want to have them in a wallet.

That being said, I did print out one of these to replace all the store loyalty cards and such. Laminated it with packing tape and it's held up for a couple of years without any trouble. http://www.justoneclubcard.com/

Most of the stuff that used to be in my wallet is now on my smartphone. I just carry a moneyclip for ID, credit/debit card and some cash. In a few years, these few items will also be obviated by an app, along with house and car keys.

Looking forward to the day when I only have one item in my pockets and that one item does everything I need (hopefully Apple teams up with Leatherman and soon produces the iPhone multitool with can opener and scanning electron microscope)

Duckttape wallet
what else
apart from the velcro that keeps the coin pocket closed, and the velcro that keeps the whole wallet closed its 100% duckttape.
Built it as a prototype a few ears ago, to try if it would stand up to some abuse, and to see how i could improve the "real" one.
turns out the prototype was quite solid already. But now its showing its wear. Also it does not like the tropics. Found that out the hard way. ducttape sweating its own glue in your pocket is not nice.

Also the abrasion brings out a quite nice texture, however it has gotten a bit too much in the recent months.

But other than that, i really like it. gotta built a new one soon.

I made myself a wallet with some tape (not silver tape) It wasn't very good and it was ugly. Since i made it just to procrastinate and not because i needed one i don't know where it is right now.
But now i have cards and cash and wanted to make myself a nice, practical and slim wallet.
Something credit card sized that had a small internal closed place for a few coins and small things and room for me to put money into too.
But i'm not very good at making things, the closest one to what i want i found to buy was this one

http://www.walletking.co.uk/men-s-wallets/card-wallet-thumbz-mike.html

Except i don't really like zippers, it doesn't have the enclosed space within or a place well fitted for money.

This one's a bit better but it's certainly not lean and it doesn't stay closed on its own.

I am just using an old bag of minidiscplayer as moneysack. its pretty cool, since it is soft and just as big as you have a lot of money in there. not easy to steel or to loose. in case you loose it, it is less obvious than a wallet. For ID and creditcard i am having an extra "book". since there is no money in in is flat enough to sit on it, since it is in my back poket.
Can really recommend this solution.

I've had a duct tape wallet (pic related) that lasted 4 years, until I forgot it in my pants and ran it through the washer and dryer. Pic was taken a few days before it was washed, hardly looks worn.
One of the great things about using duct tape is that you can customize it much more easily than leather.

As far as RFID blocking, ran across this a few months ago (http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-RFID-Shielding-Pouch-Out-of-Trash/?ALLSTEPS).). Scalable, instructions work for a passport bag.

This. I got one recently, and they are built like wallet-tanks. When you open it up the first time, there is a card in one of the card slots that has their logo and info on it and the slogan, "They'll fight over it when you're dead." It is pretty sweet. And it has a 100 year warranty.
