I was thinking about a helmet that serves a bunch of purposes at once to the people wearing it.

1. Radio communications headset
2. Mounted flashlight
3. Gas mask
4. Snorkel
5. Periscope
6. Night vision

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Also, it would need a large battery pack.

>> No.228954

Oh, and eight, the obligatory head protection.

>> No.228973

You'd have to make a kickass hand-strapped command panel for that. Glowing. In green.

>> No.229031

Maybe have the battery on your back with some straps that go around your chest.

>> No.229055

I'm monitoring this thread. Post a plan when you make one.

I drew up some retarded plans.

I omitted some incredibly key aspects, but /diy/ seems to be pretty lenient with people who post primitive plans.

OP you need lasers for this sort of design
head mounted lasers

Seems pretty cool
I was kind of thinking like plasma blasters, but head mounted lasers work too

night vision can be done with a camcorder and a bunch of infared LEDs. the camera can see the infared light. google that shit. keep in mind it wont be as good as that heat vision stuff or that green night vision stuff.

/diy/ needs an official suit design in case shit goes down. something modifiable and affordable to be used in situations like this:

/diy/ we need Spider Buster Armor. how do i make it?

>> No.231009

why would you need night vision and a flashlight?

>> No.231023

>>231009
Because you don't use them at the same time.

>> No.231030

Been dreaming of building a snorkel helmet for years. Tech is getting small/tough/cheap enough to make heads up display periscopes doable. This sounds like a spec ops type thing. Amphibious desert punk like helmet?
I'm more intrigued than ever now.
OP are you the utility belt guy? If not join forces.

>> No.231056

Off the top off my head:
Build it from the inside out, Make a life cast of your head/ at least get a foam mannequin head.

Think about inflatable cells (like pump sports shoes) for padding so you can custom fit .

This sounds like you need a monocle HUD that can move out of your view inside helmet (like Boba Fett only inside). That can be a display for computer interface/night vision/camera/periscope all in one.

The snorkel and periscope should be one piece, and extendable from the middle back of the helmet, keeping a natural angle when floating also. It can poke up/around cover when your back is against a wall like in appleseed.

Something like this will need to seal on the neck, so a separate lower part is necessary. This can merge into a small pack/padding on shoulders, holding batteries, electronics, filters and fans.

This can be kind of an armored "hump/shoulder pads" like race car drivers acting as shock absorbers for violent motion. The hump w/ batteries would help counter balance helmet buoyancy, and if built right shouldn't impede use of back packs.

The air input should be in the back (inside armor hump), wrap around air tubes in the front look "storm trooper" cool, a flap in the back can shade the input of air cooling it a bit, and it clears your field of view.

Speaking of field of view. One piece safety glass w/blast shield ftw.

Be sure to separate your mouth/nose from your eyes to combat fogging/ smaller space will control air flow better.
$.02 for you take or leave it.

As there will need to be room for a movable screen I cant imagine it to look sleek and cool, more like ned kelly's helmet.

>> No.231495

Not OP but I keep imagining something more a modified pic related. Storm trooper meets practical (less anime) Desertpunk.

That armor was as beautifully ugly as it was brilliant. There creation method is still partially shrouded in mystery and bush lore. A true testament to the DIY spirit... and f the police +1 for Kelly gang ref.
