I have acquired a Blown Sony STR-DG500 Amplifier.

When pressing the power button a relay clicks, the LCD light up showing the input then the mode it is in (exemple concert) then a relays click again and the LCD blinks PROTECT. There is no load on the device or anything else connected but power.

Any idea?

Have you tried plugging it into a different Wall socket?

One of the final stage transistors is fused short. You can find it with a simple multimeter set on low resistance range. Unsolder it, check again, buy a replacement by its number.

One of the transistor attached to the huge heatsink?

>> No.227607

Have the exact same model, mine didn't say protect though, it acted like everything was working no sound would be made. Turned out to be a fuse.

Fuse conduct fine. There is only one right?

If it's in a push-pull configuration, I'd recommend replacing the other transistor in the pair as well.

Should be three boss. One on the ac power converter, one on the dc where power hands off to the electronics package and one on the back of the board nearer to the speaker outputs but not connected directly to them in anyway.

I have an Onkyo receiver, for some reason the audio completely stopped working, any ideas?

check the fuse first

uhhhhh add a source and some speakers?

Had the same stereo and mine used to say protect/unlock sometimes when there was no speakers plugged in or a speaker wire was loose.

i opened it up and didnt see any fuses. What should I be looking for?

I have the same issue with my old sony reciever. First thing to check for is all your cabling, then inputs, diodes, transistors.

If it's not inputs or anything you can obviously, don't fuck with it, just get it fixed by a pro; or buy a new amp second hand.

The protect function on most Amplifiers are triggered when you mismatch impendance on speakers. Check that you are not touching wires or shizzle. I spent a little while finding a nice little amp to power 8ohm speakers for 2x12" subs and some mid range car speakers. So much cheaper, allready had the speakers. Was worth it.

>> No.228141

the above post is true, there are some wires either mismatched or touching. probably from the speakers

>> No.228156

In addition check the speaker impendance ... some of bass speakers can be 6-8Ohms on standard systems. Normally you can kinda get away with this but maybe yours is touchy or strict?
