I want to make a cart to carry about 100 lbs of stuff once a week over fairly flat and easy terrain. It needs to be around 36" by 30" and fit in my four door car.

Do I just go down to home depot and nail some wheels to a piece of cheap plywood?

yep

>> No.218679

Pretty much, but you might want to build a frame, and anchor the plywood to the top of the frame, then screw the wheels to the bottom, add a handle on a hinge for ease of movement, make sure the handle can fold under the frame, and bam... Done

What's a good way to fold the handle under the frame? Second poster suggested a hinge but I'm having a hard time imagining how the handle stays in place when folded out unless it is always pushed forward.

Pic is my parts list so far. Cutting the boards in two to form four boards to make the frame. Is it a stupid idea if I use the extra plywood to make a frame instead? Trying to keep costs low.

Why do you want the "handle" to fold underneath the base instead of on top of it? You'll have to make the frame of the handle less wide than the base which will decrease sterring capacity.

protip: don't put the wheels in the corners of the base like in the picture. put the front wheels (the ones farther from the handle frame) about 25% farther in (shallow, not wide)

lol, sterring. I meant to write steering, obviously.

The handle does not need to fold but just be able to be inserted into holes like the cart you picture. It allows you to use or not use the handle in seconds. Just go get a premade cart from the store for 20 bucks and cut a chunk of plywood then make a handle. Do not use osb its shitty as fuck

How would I lock the handle in place when it is folded out?

>>219571

I don't see any pre-made carts for $20 on the home depot site.

get a locking hinge. kick-lock ones will cost a bit more, but it's easier than bending down to unlock it every time you want to fold up

>> No.219628

Anyone happen to know where I can get a kick lock hinge? I see a few non-kick locking bi-fold door hinges for $7-$8 pre shipping and nothing on the home depot site.

this board is /diy/ for a reason faggot
and you can tailor it to what you need

i am not going to pay fuckloads of cash for the "radio flyer" name
so anons here is what i would like to have

•all terrain tires to go over grass and gravel
•sides that can be taken off (i am thinking of using some sort of pin to keep them in place)
•a generous pull handle for maybe two hands

not sure what a good max weight would be
do you think 200lbs is too much?

and the use is for camping stuff coolers, large water containers etc

thanks and any other thoughts you may have would be appreciated
