So a few days ago, my girlfriend and I were helping my grandmother with some yard work. I went into my grandfathers shed and found this neat little knife. I asked her about it and she didn't seem to know a lot about it. Any ideas on what it is and what it's for?

Bonus points for any ideas for something cool i could do with it.

It's modeled after a dragon claw, used by our ancestors to harness the power of the great firebreather and do some gardening.

google image search: hook knife, or hook blade
and you'll see that there are many uses for this tool
generally speaking you use a hook blade to cut an outer layer, without damaging layers underneath.
for example cutting a roof shingle, without damaging the roofing beneath, or cutting the peel of an orange, without damaging the orange wedges inside.

I've seen similar knives used for harvesting rice stalks, and also for asparagus. Seems like a gardening/farming knife of some kind.

But

Looks like a skinning knife.

>> No.212953

its the complete opposite from a skinning knife, they have lots of "belly" which would curve the other way, and a non-sharpened tip so you dont rip the hide.
