Sup mac/diy/vers
Planning on making an arcade cabinet, but not a large one--just one you set up on a desk. I'm thinking about using an old 2003 computer, a 15" TV, and a fight stick. Aside from wood or paint, would there be anything else I would need to do this?

maybe some clear plastic or plexi glass if you want to install an official sign on the top in the front

also might want some screws

A suitable way to mount the weight of the TV, making sure you keep the center of gravity in the right place. You wouldn't want it tipping over, now would you?

Integrate a piggy bank into it... Ya know, place your loose change into the coin slot and all?

Oh man that would be amazing. I unfortunately do not have the funds or room for that.

Sound. I forgot all about sound.
I'm sure I could get some decent speakers relatively cheap.

Wish I could do that.

A TESLA cabinet would be grand for any kind of simulation.

In terms of your controls, are you planning on just buying usb-based sticks and having them sit on a ledge/shelf in front of the display (picture related), or actually build them into the cabinet? (The latter would be preferred, of course) Japanese or American parts?

You might want, or indeed need, a converter box or some kind of hardware, or at least special cables, to take the output from a computer and hook it up to a television.

Assuming you're not using a brand new "HD" type television with HDMI hardware, and a brand new graphics card with the same, I imagine you'll have to go from VGA / DVI output to component / SCART input somehow.

I think SCART was mainly a UK thing.
Most of the rest of the world was using RCA (composite).

Either way, a lot of video cards have an S-video output, which can be converted to either RCA or SCART.

OP, you might want to look into getting an Ipac (don't worry - it has nothing to do with Apple). I used them on my driving rigs. To a computer, they look like a keyboard, and provide a bunch of screw terminals to attach buttons/sticks. Pic related.

You're probably right - SCART is likely just a European thing. But you never know, maybe OP is also a Eurobro.

Hey /diy/, do you think some arcades would sell their old arcade machines? Looks like that would be far cheaper and easier than buying the outside, the screen, the sound devices and all the painting and such

HOLY SHIT! That's awesome!!
I've long dreamed of building a MAME cabinet.

>>21361
They do from time to time but they're generally expensive and use propritary hardware, so you're fucked if the thing breaks. Of course you can gut it and put in your own stuff, but theyn you're overpaying for a chassis you could've built yourself.

I'm surprised that so many /diy/ers are working on arcade cabinets. I thought I was the only one.

Question: What is the least expensive option for building a set of arcade controls?

me and a friend of mine had plans to b=uild one a while back and had found button/ joysticks for fairly cheap, just google it
