Sadly, I know something about redit. Very little there has anything to do with the actual subject matter, and is simply sucking after "karma" points. If you find a thread about something interesting, at most there will be one serious post and then the clown brigade takes over trying to be "le funy" poster, except for social justice crap where they fall all over each other trying to be perfectly correct.

In this case, for no particular reason, the thread took off. Once a thread looks like it will get some attention, flocks of losers pour in to get karma. It's pretty sad.

I can't stand the generation I was born in. I cannot relate to the vast majority of my age group.

I'm 21 years old, and I don't act like this. I have my house fully paid off, free and clear, and I have no debt.

I don't waste my money on stupid trendy trinkets that aren't useful. I save any extra money that I have, and I spend my days working around the house, in the yard, and in my workshop/garage. I'm primarily working on fixing up my house when I'm not working.

I used to use reddit for niche interest stuff a lot
It used to have people discussing stuff on whatever the subject was, IE, on the welding subreddit there would be talk about techniques or troubleshooting issues with a welder or whatever, or on the machinist subreddit people would talk about specific tools or techniques, etc
now the entirety of those subreddits are completely devoid of useful information, and the only thing posted are people trying to meme shit, or posting stupid stuff they found funny, like someone didn't clean the coolant tank, or someone made a little christmas tree out of scrap metal. Absolutely no genuinely useful information.

I've been using reddit since around 2006. It was pretty good back then, comparable to modern Hacker News. It wasn't until 2010 or so when the advice dogs and rage comics and shit shifted everything to mostly image posts and karma whoring. That's also when SRS started their bullshit, but they were still the extreme minority. Then the Ellen Pao thing happened and they started banning people and subreddits for not being advertiser friendly. It was still mostly ok. Then the 2016 election happened, which broke the admins. Spez was actually caught modifying comments of political opponents because they called him a cuck. And the main political section started burying any story that didn't have a far-left or pro-DNC spin. In the past 4 years since then, they've taken it to a new extreme. Every subreddit has new rules to ensure all posts are PC and corporate friendly. Any subreddit that doesn't tow the line is either banned or has their mods replaced with approved powermods that each handle 500+ subreddits. There are no more in depth posts. Everything is just an image or biased opinion piece. There is no more debate, as any post that agrees with even 51% of the population gets 4000 points and any post that agrees with the other 49% gets buried at -4000. And they removed sorting by controversial because they don't want people to see disent. And if the side that gets 51% is what the mods consider wrongthink, the post gets locked and hidden.
