Andrew is practical and effective. Life is a jobsite for him and what he does works well. He's the only containerfag who builds serious working structures of size instead of tinyhouse faggotry.
I have two HCs welded together as a shop and want more but if I needed to start from scratch for home and shop I'd do something similar as containers are great to work with. The ideal DIY home is a shop with comfyspace for chilling and he produced that in a form far more durable than stickbuilt trash.

I watched about a minute of DirtPerfect, and here's my take: he's the kind of loud, smiley, "look at me" youtuber that I can't watch. I understand why people love that sort of style. The opposite end of the spectrum, which some of us prefer, is MyMechanics who says nothing and has no music. Andrew is sorta in the middle, but compared to DirtPerfect I think Andrew has a fanbase that loves his laconic deadpan delivery rather than looking like he's auditioning for a cable TV gig.

I kinda liked the lamp video, other people would be embarrassed to fail like that, but he uploaded the whole thing. I like his trial and error attitude. Although as someone said sometimes it's obvious he didn't do his research. His videos are a form of escapism for me, I'm studying EE and I learned to weld this summer, he's inspired me to maybe one day have my own business, rusty heavy machinery and a container castle in the woods.

Andrew used to be good before he started shilling shit heavily and before he became a Sports and Entertainment channel.

His video from few days ago on that roller was a pure infomercial. He clearly got that roller for free and never told his audience. If he had any integrity, he would have at least checked the "this video has promotional content" checkbox to let us know. But he didn't.
Lots of Youtubers have been fucked by the FTC over that kind of shilling. BTW, he also got that concrete mixer for free and failed to disclose.
I also don't like his personality and he comes off as an asshole in his videos.

When you're a contractor and you do maintenance, you usually have a contract for some length of time. if you live in an area where it snows, you've probably seen those driveway snow plow flags "snow removal by Mike" etc.
Andrew had a bunch of contracts to do property maintenance (driveway fixing, tree removal, snow plowing etc) but he clearly doesn't do any of that anymore.

I'd say Andrew had a very good flow to his "prime" vids - for me these are where he services his equipment and talks about it. I think he's knowledgeable enough in that field to kind of say what matters and cut out what doesn't, so the vids were kind of densely packed with information (at least from my perspective, and I've never been close to machinery) but didn't really have any unnecessary rumbling. Could use his stuff as background for when I'm doing something or actually watch and pay attention.
Can't say he's on par with properly scripted, shot and edited videos but good enough. If he's as bad as you say here.. well shame on him. Hope he recovers

My main gripe is that sometimes it just drags on. Twenty or thirty minutes of pushing dirt around or riding a jet ski is just boring. But like you said, when he's doing a repair that he actually understands, his videos are great. And I like the fact that it's kinda rough and unrehearsed. Also he doesn't use that annoying little tag in the upper right hand corner. I'm a person who has no /diy/ skills but i've been lurking this board for about a year. there was a guy who used a shipping container as a covered bridge over a creek and got my dad/granddad to grade his path and build some abutments. problem was he used an older 53' container and I think you aren't supposed to support those by the corners alone. they told him he was retarded but he did it anyway and I heard crunched the container one day dragging a loaded trailer behind an ATV

lots of retardation around bridges. rednecks will use anything to create a creek crossing except actual building materials. I know one guy went to a state DOT job and stole some 40' pieces of temporary HDPE pipe (think like the black corrugated PVC pipe you get at the despot, but bigger). then dropped them in the creek and graded a 12' wide gravel driveway over them. I don't know how he got them to his house, probably dragged them behind his truck.

one guy turned down a quote to grade a dam for a pond, he said he could do it himself. except he graded it with a bunch of topsoil and organics mixed in and it failed during a storm right after it filled and demolished his old barn. another guy tried to stack railroad ties and flooded his truck.

this veered off into people being dumbasses real quick but you get the idea. imagine all the questionable stuff AC does except instead of taking it easy/slow they're going all in on it.

lots of guys dumping a load of dirt/gravel then driving off with their beds up. I never have figured out how you do this. that's one of my earliest memories, I was probably 4/5 sitting in a dozer playing construction man (it was off) and a guy dumping fill dirt takes down a power line with his dump truck bed.

AC's videos on recovering stuck equipment hits home. we did a lot of this (vehicles too) living in a hilly area.

one of my parents' neighbors down the road would buy rock from us all the time, he ended up building by hand a stone house with a 7-8' perimeter fence all the way around. kind of like a mini-castle, it's actually pretty nice on the outside at least.

many people make some nice upgrades to their living spaces and yards if you can get past the redneck aesthetic. we dug a lot of "homemade" swimming pools and other features, or graded space for additions. lots of people seem to end up with mini-complexes of buildings where they are just adding on as they can afford it, but it works.

like I said, it's a lot of fucking up and you see a lot of dumb shit but it's also pretty comfy. everyone knows someone who can help out with something, lots of small operators getting together to do bigger jobs or otherwise cooperating. and not a building permit to be found anywhere. it's a nice slice of the human condition
