Didn't there used to be a perpetual van thread on this board?

My current plan

>remove the left seats
>bolt motorcycle wheel chock to floor

>weld extensions onto front 4 seat frames on right to make folding bed

>remove rear 2 seat frames on right
>weld toolbox base on seat base

I'm gunna need more storage but idk where to put it

Agreed. Right over where you're gonna put the motorcycle. Think upper cabinets in an RV

Instead of a toolbox, look for an upfit shelving unit. New shelves can be pretty cheap, and you might be able to find a used one for even cheaper. Bolt toolbox(s) to that

I was thinking about how to attach shelves to the L track on the roof, I don't wanna take the top apart though because it's insulated. Any ideas?

>>1937962
I already bought a welder and a stack of Craftsman toolboxes lol
I looked at van shelves, but they all bolt to the walls, and again I don't wanna pull off all the insulation and cladding. Simply mounting them to these existing seat rails instead of the seats should be ezpz

There was a van life thread on /out/ for a while I think. They seem to like that kind of stuff. Go over there, ask if that McCandless guy or Uncle Ted owned a van, they'll love you.

After three months of being on the road and city dwelling, I fear my van adventures are going to be put on hold until further notice. It's really difficult to actually work on your van while living and working out of it. I'll probably park it for winter and re-evaluate some things and make changes.

On a side note, can someone explain to me why I could not just buy a Prius battery pack and use that instead of these overpriced Lithium-Iron batteries? The consumer grade lithium-iron that van lifers use are generally 12V 100Ah batteries which cost $800~ on average. The Prius battery is 475Ah @ 350V and only costs around $4k new?

>> No.1938991

>>1938981

There's no reason you couldn't. The reason most "van-lifers" don't is because they're retarded and can't figure out how to make them work without killing themselves. The pack needs to be modified to give you a more usable voltage and you'll need a new BMS because of that, but there's nothing else really stopping you.

However, the Prius battery isn't 350V/475Ah. That would be a massive 166kWh battery, while even full-on EVs (non-hybrid) have packs a fraction of that size. Even the larger version of the Prius battery is only 1.2kWh or so. The Prius Prime's battery is just under 9kWh.

Either way, paying full price for either of those, new, is kind of a shit value. You can do much cheaper either making your own from bare cells, buying used packs, or both.

I don't have the stock to start on the lift extension, but I remembered that I have 1.5 sets of folding seats to cut up and use for the fold up bed platform.

This will be my first time fabricating anything with a welder. Any tips?

I have often thought about the difficulty of continuing to build a van while living in it, that was the main reason I decided against a complex build out. Any specific issues or just no room to work without a garage?

This lift is rated for 2000lbs I think. It certainly has no problem lifting myself and two other people as it is, I get that the extension is pretty long (30") but my bike is under 350lbs.
Also, I know a guy who does this.
Worst case scenario it doesn't work and I rip it out I guess, will be a fun project.

I've decided to put my folding bed at the back of the van since the toolbox fits perfectly behind the driver's seat.

I think I'm going to need to put a folding leg on this though, the lever arms are getting pretty extreme.
