One can envision the differences of the write up by different parties....

Employee's reality:
Employee was scalded by boiling ink when fixing a printer jam. Extensive burns to the face and arms. Employee's synthetic shirt melted to his abdomen. Permanent disfigurement and diminish eyesight.

The business write up:
Defective printer cartridge fails catastrophically in the presence of unqualified employee breaking company policy. Employee was advised not to try to fix the printing machine in the past. Employee has been constantly combative to management. Employee has a history of work place aggression and it is likely he did this intentionally. Employee was promptly terminated after this blatant violation of company policy. Our company policy permits a single unpaid 15 minute break during an eight hour shift. We've deduced the employee was on his 15 minute break during his violation, therefore this is a non workplace injury. Therefore we also record no OSHA recordables. When the employee shrieked for help, we advised the employee he was no longer dressed according to company policy because he had black ink all over him and could not return to work. Promptly after this, when the employee's face was melting off, he cried for a first aid kit. Which we rendered for him from our company supplies.

Resolution:
Employee was charged for the destruction of company property and for the first aid kit we graciously allowed him to use. We are now seeking damages against the employee, as some of our other employees are traumatized by his act of self inflicted masochism.

That's printer toner, it comes as a powder, and is never heated. Only the roller is heated IIRC. He'd be much more likely to suffer from an electrical shock due to the electrostatic method used to stick the toner to the drums.

The point with (cheap) soldering irons is that the tip or even heating cartridge temperature is going to be lower than the thing you are pushing the iron against, and more so if you hit a heatsink or a large ground plane the temperature will drop even lower because the heat output will not be enough. Same with handheld hot air, the heat dissipates a bit before it hits the part and the PCB, so we crank up the temperature a bit to make up for it.
Soldering in an oven however, everything gets to the the same temperature, heat's not escaping anywhere, all solder flows "easily".
Expensive soldering irons have a large thermal output, sometimes also large thermal mass, and more precise regulation to mitigate this.

tl;dr If you have to crank up your iron way up high, either you're doing something wrong or the iron sucks. High temperatures can and will damage semiconductor parts.

There will always be some thermal resistance between your element and your workpiece, and between your workpiece and your thermocouple. I use T12 tips, which by liberty of having the element in the same body as the tip have lower thermal resistance than most. By cranking the iron temp significantly above melting temp (i.e. 300, 350, maybe even 400), I lessen the time it takes for the solder to flow, but also lessen the time it takes for me to cook the parts or damage the PCB. Getting the solder significantly above the melting temp also lets it stay liquid for longer, which helps since you can't be putting heat into multiple areas at once unless you have a multi-headed iron or hot air blower. It's just a balancing act you have to perform and it changes depending on the workpiece and the iron. I went up to 420C against an aluminium-backed LED COB and it soldered just fine, didn't ruin any components at all. I did delam a few traces, but that's more up to my poor SOIC8 desoldering technique (attempt to clip the legs with blunt flush-cutters and scrape the remains of the feet off).

I don't think there's a soldering iron alive out there where you'd set your thermocouple to below 250 on lead-free solder (or below 200 on leaded?), if there is I'd love to have it. I guess technically you could do some integration on the temperature and duty-cycle in order to estimate the dynamic thermal resistance to the workpiece and hence increase the element temperature beyond what you want the workpiece at. Might be a fun project, especially if you could just program your firmware into an existing STM32 T12 station.

Reminds me when I worked at a tire store, customer just wanted a flat fixed. Jack it up on the lift, hear a huge CRACK, about 40 pounds of rust pours out on to the shop floor. Go and look, the entire underbody is severely rusted, theres holes large enough to fit a basketball through in the floorpans. The cracking noise was the unibody frame just snapping in half.

When i worked for a chevy garage, in the early 2000s, that was around the time that all the 3 series engines had that notorious intake manifold gasket leak.

Ground loop, there's current going through that pipe when there shouldn't be. Pipes are usually grounded, making one end of the circuit. The other end of the circuit could be a frayed/loose mains wire contacting where it shouldn't (requires the connection to be high enough resistance to not blow a breaker/fuse), or it could somehow be in the middle of the return path of an appliance, probably a high-power one like a heater, which would make some sense if that's an electric water cylinder. But I'm an electronics guy, not a plumbing guy.
I guess there's also a fringe possibility that it's a gas hot water cylinder and the fire is burning in the wrong place, but I really doubt it.

Reminds of one time we had this guy in a 1 ton truck in, right away we see his front wheels are really canted out to one side. Jack it up, and there's like several inches of movement in the suspension. Tell him his ball joints, and front end in general is dangerously worn out. He dismisses us and says it's fine, just change the oil.

The next day the the fucker had his truck towed into the shop, ball joint let loose on the road finally and all hell busted loose. He blamed us, claimed we did something to sabotage it because we were mad he wouldn't pay to get the front end fixed.

This was like dude at my work who was complaining about his car running rough, he “just needed some spark plugs” so I decided to help him out.

Nissan Altima with the 2.5. His GF has one of those Walmart tier bluetooth scanners for dummies. They tell me it’s a P0300 and P0304, so they definitely only need a single spark plug on #4. I get over there, it’s only showing me P0300 on a real scanner. I ask to see the phone, and it says “P0300: Random Misfire” and further down says “Commonly associated: P0304”, so it wasn’t actually a bad plug or coil on #4 specifically, and P0300 is kinda a clusterfuck to diagnose.

So what should’ve been a 10min job, a bad plug or coil on one cylinder, turned into an hour in a dark parking lot looking at all the plugs and coils. Turns out somebody replaced the coils with some ebay aftermarket like a year or two before, the plugs were all dry, it wasn’t obviously misfiring, just kinda an older car idle and ticking. Plus all of the plugs for the coils had been replaced with those butt splice connectors and the wiring was all older and brittle. I told him he can drive it to work on a Friday and drop it off at my place after so I could fuck with it for the weekend, but I think he gave up and that car has barely beem driven for 6 months. I’m halfway convinced it’s not even that rough of an idle, but they got a newer Hyundai so this 15 year old Altima sounds rough after driving in the Hyundai.

I'm a maintenance fitter at an injection moulding factory (making plastic shit). We needed to do some work on the barrel on one of our machines but the bolts we had to take out were stretch bolts that hadn't had enough anti seize put on them. Used the hydraulic torque wrench to get them out (the keys were snapping at 7000-8000 nm) and tried literally every trick in the book on the last one but still ended up having to use a mag drill to drill it out.

What year was your house built? My 1957 house has asphalt impregnated cloth, non metallic with an 18 ga ground with 14-2 or 14-3. Even the 12 ga wire only had a 16 ga ground. None of the grounds were terminated in the metal boxes; they were wrapped around a screw and then twisted together outside of them. It has been a royal pain in the ass to get the ground directly attached to a NEMA 5-15 rather than ground through the box. Hell, until the kitchen renovation a few months ago, every single general purpose outlet and light was on one of three circuits.

Not even an issue. It smokes and smells at best. You would have to be heating the exhaust in racing condition or maybe have a turbo under load the get the type of heat need for that. I've seen a lot of race cars blow things from head gaskets, over filling and coming out the dipstick, blowing pugs out of pans or off superchargers/turbos, blow by and a catch can overfilling, they billow smoke around the track. None caught fire unless they were going hard like in an actual race as compared to a drivers event for some track time.

this looks to be a gore install of an LPG conversion, the 4 coil-like things are the LPG injectors that have tubes running into the intakes, you have to splice the wires from the gasoline injectors. Also, you can be sure that the swarf and debris from drilling said intake manifold for the extra tubes from the LPG injectors are now in the engine. Sadly common in Central and Eastern EU.
