Seen a few posts lately about "gravity hooks". How do I make one? It seems relatively simple, just bits of metal and some bolts. But getting the metal the right shape might be hard as I do't have a metal cutter. Any ideas? Thanks maties

Until you get yourself a cutter and grinder, you don't. Why do you want/need one of these? Could you not re-purpose a big fuck-off fishing hook?

all hooks are gravity hooks. In fact everything is a gravity thing

Some are barometric pressure things, though.

I get the desire to DIY one, but if you don't even have a way of cutting metal then you have no business DIYing one. Either get the proper tools to make one, or buy an already made one.

On one hand the tools (grinder and cutoff wheels, drill and bits, and maybe a dremel or die grinder to smooth out the inside curves) will cost more than just purchasing a ready made gravity hook, but on the other hand, you'll will have the tools for other tasks in the future.

Any reason it needs to me metal? Why not wood?

You could build a wood one as a proof of concept and to lift light things with, but unless you make it huge and chunky it won't have a whole lot of strength to it.

These to parts are mutually exclusive. If it's simple then why are you asking? If you are asking then it must not be simple.

You have the picture make one.

First you are gonna need to dig a 500 foot hole using hand tools so it's cheap. Then you are gonna need to put imitation crab meat in the hole so you have snacks while you work. Finally, you need to get a shipping container to furnish so you have a safe, cheap place to sleep/eat/bathe/live when you aren't making gravity hooks.

I was going to offer to design one you could 3d print, but there are a half dozen on thingiverse already.
