So I've got a property that has 300+ of these stupid heat pumps, they're easy enough to work on, but moving them is a pain, they're not that heavy, about 75lb or so, but there is nothing to grab on to and they have to be maneuvered in and out of tight spaces.

Any ideas on how to make these easier to move around?

Sorry for the ant sized pictures, I didn't take any at work and finding reasonablly sized photos on google ain't easy, but this is the housing it sits in when it's working, when they stop working.

Also a big problem with attempting to lift and manuver them safely is the coil is exposed. guys usually end up putting a knee in there.
I think making a temp cover for the coils for transportation would be easy enough.

>> No.1730858

Bolt them to a metal base that has holes in it for a pallet jack. Get a forklift or pallet jack to move them around. For extra points run a strap over the top and strap them down or around the forklift so they dont tip over.

I should elaborate on the restrictions, these are used in hotel rooms, so the space I have to work with is quite limited.
Ideally the solution would be compact enough that I could wheel it in and out of a small hotel room (about 400sqft) Once it's out of the room I have all the room in the world to work. It's just getting it out of it's housing and then out of the room that has proven to be a pain in the dick.

What's wrong with a furniture dolly? What specific portion of the lift/movement is difficult?

The dolly is fine if it's on the ground, but the cabinet it sits in is raised by about 9 inches, it's the initial lift from floor to cabinet that's difficult, smooth metal finish with nothing to grip makes it kind of difficult.

They do but it might be expensive/hard to find. It is a thing though, kinda like a mini hand forklift. They make electric walk behind ones too, but those are likely still too large.

Was going to recommend this. Between all the heat pump accounts my company services we care for roughly 2500 heat pumps and about 1400 of them are the chassis style ones you seem to be dealing with. We frequently use lift tables/carts to swap chassis from rooms and onto our work benches at the sites.

>> No.1731180

Plus you'd have to have room for the handles somehow. I think these are meant to go into walls/cabinet things so extra shit sticking off might be a no go. OP's better off with using 2 people and a lift cart as has been suggested itt, if it fits in the rooms.

I would consider a motorcycle lift. They come in several sizes and types. A crank up one would be more portable. I have a fuckhuge one with a bottle jack in it.

>> No.1731214

I would actually consider rigging up one of the crank ones to a traditional rolling dolly like
>>1730877

So, rolling dolly, 3/4" plywood attached to dolly, lift attached to plywood.

Probably get a bit for an electric driver, and be able to quickly raise and lower it that way too.

>> No.1731216

>>1731209
>>1731214
The one with the bottle jack wouldn't maneuver too well on carpet and would probably have to be lifted and rocked over a threshold - tiny wheels. Sorry, missed that detail.

Like the table but they seem expensive and probably rated for way more weight. Doesn't sound like you need them to go up quite that high.

Make your own lifting dolly...

Get a dolly with large tires from Harbor Freight and one of their ratcheting winches too. Mount the winch on the top of the dolly either on the frame, or build a nice sturdy arm to stick out further over the base. Then get yourself a switchable lifting magnet to stick onto the heat pump frame and lift away...

dont you automatically have one end up using a dolly anyways? is it not possible to get the edge of the appliance on the surface, lean it over, and slide it the rest of the way? You'll be sliding it either way, whether you use on of these lifting carts.

Making one would be mo' bettah... I mean this is DIY for a reason Anon.

>> No.1731637

>>1731471
This is a fair point. If you can lean the dolly back and have big enough tires on the dolly it'll probably lift the edge of the unit up the 9" you need. Then tilt the dolly against the opening and slide the unit off.

For 300+ moves, build a ramp out of plywood. Roll dolly (or hand truck) up ramp.
