I end up doing some stuff on this house even though I rent because I don’t always feel like waiting for their guy to come over. I just tell the owner later that I’m deducting it from the rent and they’re always stoked they didn’t have to pay somebody.

This fuckin guy is supposed to be coming eventually to replace the light in my laundry room since the ballast blew, and he has been telling me for 2-3 weeks that he has the light and he’s going to come, but nothing yet. I should’ve bought the damn thing and done it myself.

I don't own a stud finder these days, I use a magnet instead. the flat disc kind. I slide it around the wall until it picks up the head of a screw. That won't be confused by conduits, maybe you can try it.

There's a million power outlets and various switches on both sides of the wall at different heights (between kitchen and living room), and the stud finder's 'AC' detector goes off on almost the whole wall, including where the studs are. I think there's metal conduit running up the side of the stud, since the stud finder just registers what looks like two right next to each other.

Truck will be used as our farm service truck. Will have a welder/generator, torches, and air compressor on it. Crane will be handy for lots of farm related tasks like pulling shallow irrigation wells, putting duals on tractors, etc. Bucket will be nice for working on buildings and cutting down tree limbs that need trimmed.

Some days I’m tempted to build a truck like that and try to start my own sketchy roadside assistance company. Drive up and down 95 during rush hour, find people on the side of the road with car trouble, and tell em $200 and I’ll get their car right.

Crane is a good idea as long as you still have room in the bed. They make some neat ones that tuck away on the side and stay out of the way when not in use.

This one is a pretty big crane, Extends out like 40' or 45' and has a load rating of over a ton when fully extended and horizontal to the ground. With the boom retracted and lifted up almost straight it is supposed to have like a 20,000lb lifting capacity. I'll have to double check the load charts again to be sure. It has a boom rest that keeps it up out of the way of the bed.

It is an old lineman digger derrick truck so it also has the hydraulic post hole digger on it. Came with an 18" auger and will dig down about 12 feet by extending the auger out to the last hole on the hex shaft.

I also plan on using it to set posts and trusses on a storage container shed that I'll be building.

Here's another pic of it right after I got it before I started cutting stuff off of it and fixing it up how I wanted it to be.

Order a Kevlar vee belt from Amazon if your fan belt fails. The little 5 speed mower drivetrains are quite the novelty, they have a little selector pin keyed in a shaft that moves around between gears. However, they're low-geared, so if you need more speed, set up a jackshaft of some sort. With a 10+ hp motor, you should be able to get at least 30-40 MPH with the right gearing.

>> No.1713116

>>1713092

https://www.vbelts4less.com/

They have about any kind of belt there for cheap. I agree the kevlar ones are the ones you want for a mower transmission or mower deck. They can withstand having an idler running on the back side of the belt without deteriorating.

Update, I tried this with the magnet, it wasn't powerful enough to actually stick to the wall, apparently.

Instead I just drilled a shallow but wide hole through the drywall and used a magnifying glass and flash light to very I hit wood.
