Hey fellow DIYers

Like you and this board I love building fixing working with metal wood etc, I can do almost anything.

HOWEVER

I've had 4 of these lying around in the garage for years and never got an idea on how to put them into good use.

Bought them off ebay for $5 each.

Any ideas?

Ammo-Can Stove, or its cousin, the Ammo-Can Fireplace With Chimney.

Pirate Box.

Survival Supply Kit.

Lockbox (with a purchased Ammo Can Lock or a homebuilt solution)

Handgun Safe (basically just the lockbox with the addition of a form-fitting drop in sleeve that holds the handgun plus ammo. If mounted with care opening the lid could swing the grip up into grasping position)

Paintball Pressurized Gas Canister Carrier with internal guides to hold the canisters. Make it look sharp, sell to paintballers for insane money.

Bootcamp Workout. Fill cans with sand and/or rocks. Carry them, heft them, curl them, drag through obstacle courses while someone yells at you.

Ammo Can Portable Bar. Insert dividers and form-fitting reusable cold-packs to create a chilled section for a height-width appropriate liquor storage device. (skip the cooling if it should not be cold?) Devote other sections to perfectly nesting and protected (or industructible metal shell) cups/glasses. Add a fold-out wire leg to prop up the folded-over lid as a bartop.

I don't know how electronically minded you are, but I have a few that I'm in the process of turning into modular synthesiser components, similar to pic related (not mine). I also leave a few in my van for storing fixtures and clamps relevant to my job, if I need a bunch of bar clamps, I just grab the box and away I go.

I have seen these turned into iPod docks with speakers and an SLA built in, test gear (best I saw was a guy who built a function generator into one, he built a panel into the top of the box so when you opened the lid it revealed the controls, from the outside there was just nothing to tell what it was.. Gods it was sexy!), any project you can think of that needs an industrial looking case.

Usually that is done with the 30mm cans...I just gave 4 of em to one of my m/o/t/o/ buddies a while back for his Harley.

yanno, you could pull the gasket out and separate the lid and swirl paint them shits...and then use it for a lunchbox or something...<shrugs>

I have several of these in the 40mm ammo size.

Good cases, but not a fucking clue how I would get them for $5 in Australia. Good job on that price.

I have one for dry food when camping, one for all cooking/eating gear, one for a medical supplies, one for 4x5m ropes and a canvas tarp, and finally one for misc. small camping items (torches, fuels, soft-sink, etc)

All are colour coded with their use stenciled on the sides.

Complimenting all of this is a couple of Jerrycans and a Tropical ice-box, bow-bag and, naturally, my swag.

Pretty good to go camping with imho. Waterproof, so you can leave them in the weather, secure, solid, animal-proof and the perfect height for seats/benches to cook on.

Oneday I plan on getting them sandblasted and re-sprayed all grey, with professional looking stencils on them.

With these it means, when I decide to go camping, it's just a matter of grabbing a lot of boxes, chucking them into the ute-tray and going.

Thought about that, although the latch is quite tough and loud to open.
One day i will have a ute (sedan atm) so i se this being a reasonable option. I do like the colour however having the ammo quotes on the side would stir up the cops or thieving bastards

The best way to put them to good use it to put ammunition inside them. Pic related OP.
