How much does this weigh? I can’t be adding 20k lbs worth of crap on my truck if I lose out on heavy loads.

They could totally add solar panels to the roof of reefer trailers like that to run the chilling system.

Lets say your average truck has 400HP, that's 300kwH. So your 50% "boost" figure, assuming 100% efficiency, goes down to 0.6%. That's probably not even enough to compensate for the extra weight.

LOL, what's tomorrow.

Hey FBI, why don't you do your job and arrest the people doxing me. Do you really want me to drive to the Santa Rosa Office to file a report? I will. That would be a nightmare for everybody, because the FBI, will ask me to file a report with my local police, they will then coordinate with FBI to find the undercover agent who is doxxing me. Then the management that doxxed me, who authorized it will get dragged in. Then this will all come under election fraud. People doxing me because I'm a political candidate. Then the secret service will probably find some old law that protects the Wayne Lambright's of the world from home born terrorism and you'll probably do jail time. If it makes you feel any better, you're hurting lots of people by doing what you're doing. Many people are involved and you're pulling a lions tail.

That seems... unlikely to result in the boost you're thinking of.

You can't get more energy out of the panels than what they're rated for, certainly.
If you assume it takes an average transport van (think like a sprinter that those vandwellers love so much) uses 1 KWh of power per 3 miles if it's electric. This will represent the most efficient way of using electricity that is currently possible, for the sake of argument.
If the vehicle is traveling at 60 MPH, that means every minute it has gone a mile, which means in 3 minutes it has used 1 KWh of energy.
If you had 2000 Watts of solar on the van (which isn't likely to fit, but, hey, let's say it does), then in those 3 minutes you would have generated ~0.1 KWh of power. This is 1/10th the power usage. So, if everything were ideal, the panels could supply 1/10th the energy needed for each mile of highway driving.
Let's ignore the fact that gasoline engines are less efficient overall, and the fact that when we change the form of energy we lose some of it (say, to crack some water into Oxygen and Hydrogen), and we'll say that the panels can decrease the fuel consumption proportionally by just injecting the hydrogen into the gasoline engine in some manner to be burned with the gasoline. This still means we're only supplying 1/10th of the energy from the solar panels, and 9/10ths from the gasoline. So if the vehicle burned 5 gallons per 100 miles driven before, now it burns 4.5 gallons per 100 miles drive. That's... not going from 20 MPG to 90 MPG. That's going from 20 mpg to 22.2222 MPG. And the system possibly wouldn't even break even with the cost to purchase and install it like this. :(

This isn't to say that I don't support putting solar panels on vehicles. I do. They just have to be electric vehicles, and we have to temper our expectations in the percentage reduction of charging station use.

Truckerfag here and independent owner-operator here

this is absolutely true. There are a lot of 45k loads that I haul less than 100 mi up the road to a processing facility. I'm also on a regional account and many of my loads are under 500 miles and pick up and deliver same day.

The problem with this whole system is not only the weight that it adds to the trailer but it's one more thing to malfunction. Most of your contract freight, the bread and butter of most large trucking companies, most of those loads are well over 40k. Budweiser and any other beer load almost always puts me at max gross 80k which works out to 45.5k in the trailer, I've been as high as 46k. If I'm broke down, I'm not making money. These systems WILL fail eventually and when they do it will cost me money to fix.

What about night runners? This appears to be something that only works in the day and most truckers drive in the evening hours to avoid traffic in large cities. This system also isn't going to work in a snowstorm or any other severe weather where available light is diminished, not to mention if you have a hailstorm, forget it the whole system is trashed. Another issue putting them on a trailer topside, it will increase the height of the trailer and bridges those trailers could previously get under, will take this system right off the top of the trailer.

Where this application would definitely improve fuel efficiency, is on the roof of the tractors to power an APU or some sort of refrigeration system to keep the inside of the tractor cool while waiting to be loaded. This would reduce engine idle time and reduce wear and tear. And the tractors are usually shorter so there's room up there. This tech is already implemented on some trucks but there's always room for improvement.

>> No.1698119

>>1698024
There's also the part where it's total bullshit to begin with. Yes, use maybe a kw of electrical energy to split water using electrolysis then burn it in the engine. The output energy would be a few hundred watts (1/3hp) at most with all that inefficiency. It probably wouldn't register on your fuel economy. This kind of shit only works on ultra light remote control vehicles for a reason, and they're using the electrical energy efficiently in driving motors.

all of that to squeeze out and extra 3-4% efficiency of a standard ICE engine

This is stupid. I have an extended length van and would struggle to fit 5 panels on the roof securely, much less 6, and you certainly aren't fitting 4 on the back doors. Let's go ahead and ignore that any panel not on the roof will barely produce shit and would be a complete waste of time and money.

I know this for a fact since I have solar panels on the roof of my van, and the three I have take up most of the space I have up there, with just enough left for one more if I wanted to expand, and the vent/fan.

>$2.99/watt
Anon, that's the price you pay for the massive panels that go on homes, with the cost of installation. You can get a 100W 12V solar panel for $85 at Home Depot.

NO, they extend when you park. I have a way to store hydrogen in a no-pressure so we can make hydrogen when you park, then burn it on the trip home.

NEW VIDEO IS UP

With my electricity invention, #FloatingElectricity I could bounce the power to you... and about 50 other spots in that same line of sight over the horizon. That is possible. I would generate the power by the north pole then beam it to you.

My idea is patented don't fucking steal it, but listen:
Beaming electricity from solar array in space to a local array, to individuals
100% free, technology is already available
Loss doesn't matter as it's free energy
Solar sails can be cheap and mass produced
One satellite reserved with a high power beam to instantly hit and destroy you personally, then we destroy all this technology and we are free of Wayne lambright™

My new rain cover is installed. I put a new guide wire in the middle 3 feet above the other ones now the plastic is on top of the wire and instead of below, faster and should last longer. This is good for wins up to 1.5 miles an hour. With stronger tape 1.6 miles an hour.

Based off the largest cargo trailer you can legally drive, each unit has close to 450 sq ft of roof space. Going by a renogy 12 volt panel for ball park efficiency, it produces around 14 watts of power per sq ft. so 6300 watts of solar. Maybe 7000 with a higher efficiency panel.
16.5 lbs a panel, 63 panels. 1040 lbs, not a lot for a truck of this size but it might affect the overall efficiency. A small 2 inch air deflector would make the air drag almost nothing. Flexible thin panels would be a lot more useful but the efficiency of those panels is lower and therefore would mean a smaller array. 6.3 kw, assuming best world conditions which you will never get because the panel is not angled thats 8.3 HP of solar. I'm going to ignore your brown gas bullshit since that rarely works and is very inefficient in production. Hydrogen is unstable and unsafe. A hybrid or direct drive motor. They have 99% efficient motors and inverters that can reach 98% so say 95% for a less than perfect world. Just under 6 kw or 8 HP. A 43% efficient diesel engine, the upper limit of most available trucks consumes about .326 lbs of diesel an hour. 7.1 lbs so 21.77 HP per gallon. At 6 mpg, at 60 mph you consume 10 gallons of diesel, so 71 lbs of fuel divided by the brake consumption thats around 215 HP.
8 horse power reduced out of 215 or about 4 percent. A lot of this is rough math but it shows this would only provide next to nothing in fuel savings.

6 mpg is the average, with an engine that efficient, that would be 9-8 mpg.
