Jesus

The Ridgid MegaMax is pretty sweet, hole hog and beast sawzall and SDS all in one tool. It’s a really powerful brushless base too. And the smaller Jobmax has a right angle drill, looks like there was a jigsaw and recip saw attachment, plus oscillating multitool (sanding is a big plus because sanding by hand is annoying). So you can drill-drive and cut with the same tool, albeit at an awkward angle. The Jobmax will also fit any of the Ryobi attachments and I think the 12V and 18V heads are the same so it will fit on both bases. I also saw a pic on Google of a pneumatic base so you can get an air powered base.

But that’s kind of cheating. If it were really only one powertool without a bunch of attachments, I would grab the most powerful 1/4” hex impact driver. You can get drill bits in hex shanks and put a socket adapter on there too and the newest generations of 1/4” impacts will break nuts loose that are a pain in the ass with a 1/2” ratchet.

Amish often have powered workshops, there was a visit to an Amish workshop in an issue of Fine Woodworking many years ago, they had a tractor engine turning a shaft running under the floor of the shop, all the tools ran off a belts from this shaft. Amish are not anti technology, they are just picky about it and do not blindly accept every new gadget as a path to a better way of life. They consider the technology and decide if it will actually improve their life or just increase their dependence on technology.

About to make a bunch of storage boxes, suppose I can post some of that, but it will not be anything to exciting, tool boxes after that, previous tenant of the old home filled the old coal room with shelves and cabinets, made great tool storage but now I have tools stashed where ever they can go! Not him, but as he pointed out you don't know how Amish works and he didn't say he was one anyway.

You mentioned St. Roy, so I can direct you to his springpole and treadle lathe designs. Barnes made a series of velocipede powered machines including a wood lathe, screw-cutting metal lathe, scroll saw, table saw, and more. You can get hand-cranked grinders even today, and they can mount buffing wheels just like a powered one.

That's not the direction I would go unless I was a prepper but neanders who go totally unplugged are a real thing.

So basically everything in your entire post is wrong.

Have you tried shutting the fuck up? Or maybe only replying to questions you have the answer to?

>>1641596

Nice! I have Stanley 4,5,7, and 60½, a 151 spokeshave, 8in drawknife, some Japanese saws, a Millers Fall #5, and a MF 8" bit brace. Oh and a Lee valley router plane. Plus the usual etc. That handles most jobs.

Plus a cordless drill because while I don't have room or $ for power tools I eventually want some. I don't use it much, not even as a redneck lathe.

A bench plane is cheaper than a jointer and not much work to use. A planer would be nice. And maybe a bandsaw for resawing and ripping. I might eventually get a trim router and track saw but no rush. I don't see the need for a table saw or sander of any kind. Eventually a drill press plus dual purpose bandsaw might let me do some metal work. You'd be shocked how much you can do with hand tools, and some jobs really are easier with them. Plus skipping even one "must have" machine will save you enough space and money for a nice hand tool collection and then some.

My next project is learning to rive wood. I don't have a froe yet but I'm trying a log with an axe and wedges just to see how far I can go.

I'll post my one power tool in a second. Really you don't need anything.

Ok now for this question.

Like I said, you don't really need anything. A drill is fantastic and very flexible, but if I only choose one power tool? It doesn't do anything I can't do with my brace and eggbeater. Redneck lathe is nice but if I'm artificially limited to a single tool then if I really need the lathe I'll just get a lathe.

Router is the same deal only moreso. With a plunge attachment, flipped into a table, etc, you can do some serious shit. It's an incredibly flexible tool, and btw subs out for most of the drill shit. But a scratch stock handles moulding, and then planes etc make up for the rest.

Circular saw? Meh. I'd get a tracksaw if I was going down this road but shitty as it is, a rip saw will rip anything given time and booze. For crosscutting I prefer the saw anyway. Miters and fancy pants angles again are just a bench hook or whatever away. Ditto for a sawzall, though I admit they're cool and especially for wrecking shit.

Most of my friends with recip "multitools" don't ever use them, so there's that.

Angle grinder? Don't have one, haven't needed one. I have a hacksaw if I ever need to cut metal. Bench grinder? I don't own one either and yeah I feel it. Still, I use a couple diamond stones for sharpening, a strop, and sandpaper&flat stone for the rare times I need other grits. It's not NECESSARY.

Btw that plus my bench planes and card scrapers covers me on sanding. So no belt sander or RO sander. A rag, sponge, and (occasionally) brush has me covered on finishing. So no airbrush.

All that also means no need for a dust collection system. Mostly I generate shavings.

Ok so what's left? I could be a dick and say lawnmower, but let's move to machinery.

Next post...

>> No.1641909

>>1641908

Bench grinder is very cool but not needed.

Table saw isn't needed. Drill press isn't needed.

Bandsaw is incredibly convenient... but not if it's the only tool I get to own.

I don't weld.

A thickness planer would save me a lot of time and sweat, and not take up too much space or $$. But not strictly needed.

A jointer is expensive, takes up huge amounts of space, and my #7 does the same thing pretty quickly and effectively.

Not being a machinist, a mill or metal lathe is wasted on me.

So I guess that leaves a wood lathe. I'd get a midi lathe. I'm not going to make a springpole lathe, so it's the one tool that will open doors to do shit I couldn't otherwise do by hand.

>hand-cranked grinders even today, and they can mount buffing wheels
They can mount them but have fun, the weight of the stone acts as a flywheel to keep things spinning, without that weight they are a bitch to keep spinning for any amount of time at any speed. There is one sort that would do alright, they have huge gearing and perhaps even an internal flywheel, they are twice the size of the standard affair and use non-standard 2" wheel that comes off the main housing at a 45 degree. I find them awkward to use myself and prefer the more common form.

>>1641909
>I'm not going to make a springpole lathe
Treadle lathes are great things and very powerful, they even made metal working lathes that were treadle power, complete with gear box and lead screw, great fun. Springpoles take some getting used too but will fly through the wood when you get the rhythm down.

Clingy girls are not hermit friendly, but you are not a hermit, you just have low self esteem and avoid people because you find yourself worthless. Clingy girls are easy to find, find any girl with lower self esteem than yourself and feed her ego, she will become dependent on you for that ego fix. Problem is if you feed her ego too much she will realize how empty and insecure you are, you will make her confident enough to find someone that can actually offer her something beyond a fragile codependency. You would be best off working on developing some self worth.

A hermit, like myself, is a hermit because I actually prefer solitude and would rather be alone than have someone to fuck that also destroys solitude. I do not rule out a female companion, but the chances of finding one that is ok with being with someone that will go weeks without speaking is unlikely. I am a hermit, not a misanthrope, at times I can be quite social and while I am in no way a part of society there are parts of it I enjoy greatly, just not as much as I enjoy quiet, the only thing that makes society tolerable/enjoyable is my separation form it.

Develop some skills, find something constructive that you enjoy, find people with like interests, become more than a cog in the machine, you are not a hermit and that life will just isolate you more from what you desire.

it was awful, nothing worth jerking off to later thats for sure. she was a heroin addict. i know this because she asked if i did it and before we had sex she did the classic "gotta pee first" and i could hear her chasing the dragon on my shitter.

shame, she was hot as fuck too. so i fucked her, the condom was too tight though and she was so jumped out on the down it was a major turnoff. i just said yea not happening, and she left

best part is she texted me later asking me why her vag was on fire

I got thinking to spade bits because these fuckers are new and sharp and torque your wrist when they grab. So i got the smallest size from the pack and put it in the 12V impact driver to start and it spilt the piece of wood along the grain when it started hammering.

I think it is safe to say that anyone who wants a clingy girl friend that needs constant attention and assurances is not seeking solitude.

Meh, there’s a difference between being a hermit and being an introvert. Lots of chicks are clingy so you gotta find the one who respects you when you need a couple hours alone in the garage and will tell you when it’s time to come in for dinner and a blowjob. I tell my girl that the saw dust and asbestos will kill estrogen levels and I don’t want her to start growing a mustache and she won’t get the good D if I don’t have some alone time at the workbench.
