My son's right on Jeep has a remote controller runs on AAAs and constantly dies. Is there a safe way to convert the controller to run on a 9v?

That should be *ride on* jeep, unless it's some particularly awesome kind of jeep. What about rechargeable AAAs? You can convert the voltage with a DC-DC converter (either step up or down depending on what voltage it needs) but that's a much less elegant solution.

>> No.1618501

you could slap a voltage regulator after the 9v to the rest of the circuitry to drop it down to the right voltage. this seems like fixing a symptom instead of the problem though. a remote shouldn't be sucking a ton of current. How long do the batteries last? If you leave them in when not in use do they still die?

Triple AAA is pretty close to lithium, just slap whatever there

Batteries last about a week. New AAAs

WEW lad. Do people really not do this in 2019?

do an LS swap and convert the whole thing over to 12v deep cycle marine battery

Do a Tesla conversion and run autopilot.

Does the controller have an On/Off switch that you're leaving On between uses, perchance?

Nope. It's always on

If its 6 AAA in series, easy. Totally gonna last longer.

Add an off switch.

Just pop out one battery when done.

this, I did the same thing when I was 8

How many batteries are in it? I was gonna say this >>1618515

If it’s 3 or 4 x AAAs, use Li-Ion. You can get the USB input protection boards for super cheap and recharge it off a cell phone charger.

>>1618488
How many AAAs? If there's 6 of them in series, that's already 9V so you should be able to switch over to a bigger 9V battery.

>> No.1618871

>>1618488
AA batteries are 1.2v nominal per cell. Lithium cobalt are 3.65v per cell. So long as the multiple is 3 in series, you could slap a protected 18650 in there as a direct replacement.

My daughter has a similar jeep. Fun tip, add an extra 6v lead acid or lithium battery and run it on 18v instead of 12, for a bit more speed :^)

>> No.1619331

>>1618488
If you can figure out how to cram AAs into it, you'll immediately double the life. Otherwise, get rechargeable AAAs. Standard 9V batteries don't last very long, internally they're typically just 6 LR61 cells, which are basically AAAAs.

electrical engi here. That sounds like a fun and cool project to do while your son watches. pretty easy. You need to choose the larger battery you want and use a multimeter to find out what your load needs.
