The season is upon us.

Would be it better to topdress and seed with triple mix or "lawn soil" with added fertilizer stuff? Both being the same price per yard.

i dont, know i live in california, and i keep my lawn watered and cut (fescue) and every 7-10 years i rent a sodcutter and cut it all out and just replace it. Bermuda creeps in and its near impossible to get out.

Sod is 50 cents a square foot, seed and soil are a significant percent of that. I found it not cost effective where i live to deal with and easier to just replace every few years. Plus it give me an opprotunity to easily make irrigation adjustments and maybe change the borders a little.

I put down a truckload of compost from the city's yard waste program.

$14 to fill your truck bed as full as you want. Spread that using a grated roller I made from expanded mesh. Greenest front yard in the neighborhood, no chemicals or fertilizers
